Iowa Program Trends (recruiting, as well as efficiency rankings)

I remember, so are you disagreeing with me that the class fell short of expectations? They were 7-5, 6-7, and 6-6 the first 3 years they were on campus. 2008 was a decent year with a top 20 finish and a Outback Bowl win and there were a few around from that class for the 2009 Orange Bowl season.
Not disagreeing on the team's performance at all.

I just found it interesting you picked out the walking wounded when declaring the class a flame out. And that is because I have trouble calling a kid or a class a flame out or bust when it is playing injuries that caused the missed expectations. If they were skate boarding in a snow storm and got hurt, that is different.

I also don't think we should shy away from 4 or 5 star kids because of that class either. Should we have not recruited our 4 4*s this year because of that?

Oh hell no, heck Epenesa was a 5* recruit.

My point is that these rankings don't mean all that much and this coaching staff has done really well with the 3* star recruits. That 2005 recruiting class was the highest rated class we've ever seen at Iowa but it didn't go on to have as much success.

It seems like this coaching staff does better with 3 star recruits. I'll never forget the 2005 recruiting class, it was ranked in the top 10 and featured 5 star recruits like Dace Richardson, Dan Doering, and Tony Moeaki. It seemed like Iowa was turning into a blue blood program and I had visions of national championships dancing in my head. But those 5 star recruits flamed out and the real stars of that recruiting class turned out to be Pat Angerer and Marshal Yanda (3 star recruits). Ever since then I've stopped looking at rankings.
Totally agree. I’ve been checked out on recruiting ever since.

The biggest sign to how well a recruiting class does at Iowa is not stars, but whether or not the staff gets their first tier off their big board. Using that measure, the last 3 or 4 classes will be big for us.

Read an article that reviewed the QB’s recruited by each BT team. 11 of 14 were pro style. Lots of three stars
