Iowa Program is bottoming out

Someone here keeps saying Dix is going to Creighton. Haven't seen that anywhere else.
That was the rumor last year as well. If he stays and gets more consistent with his aggression, he could have a Peter Jok type senior year. He probably could have done that this year with the right mindset.

Dix has been playing nicked up some this yr I think. I don't think he's been 100% for but a few games earlier on this yr.

Dix and Payton have been playing banged up most of the season.

There are reasons and then their are excuses. Dix and Payton struggling with injuries and fighting through it is legit. Crying about being held and not being able to move and get shots off are excuses.

Jackson Shelstad, Tonje, Jace Richardson all these dudes are being held and grabbed and not allowed to have free reign to get shots off…so that means Payton and Dix won’t be allowed either.

It is no secret. That includes his stint at Lehigh, UNC Greensboro and Sienna.
Never said it was a secret, it's pretty damning when you put it in that context though. On the flipside no one including Fran ever thought he'd win a Dance game at any of those three schools.

That's just a coverup for lack of talent. If they were athletic enough to play in the B1G they wouldn't have that problem.

I've said it a million times and it isn't a knock against them personally, but our guys are at their talent ceiling plain and simple. When you put some injuries on top of it it's even worse. In order to get talent that can win games at their ceiling, Iowa needs money way more than they do a new coach or new arena. No different than if you had no salary cap in the NFL, Jerry Jones would just go buy the 25 best players out there and win every super bowl because he's only got maybe 8-10 years left to live and he wants rings more than money now.

There's a reason why the ranking of total NIL spending correlates directly with team rankings. Iowa doesn't have the cash. And Iowa is getting the exact level of talent they are paying for. Unless a salary cap gets put in place with equal revenue sharing, this is Iowa basketball's new place in the world no matter who the coach is. Mike Krzezcewsrkszyski wouldn't even make the dance with these guys and the injuries on top of it.

This is a tough hill to climb and you're right, somehow this is going to have to change.

Using numbers to state the obvious:

The average P4 player makes $171,000.

Our roster makes over $1 million.

Let's say our top 8 guys each make $171,000. This means we have average players, which means we have a mediocre team.

Now, I'm not sure how much it cost us, but the #37 player is committed to us (for now). He's from Florida, not CRapids. He's not coming here for free. He's either coming here on a discount, we're pooling our funds to get one big fish, or somebody ponied up some cash. I have no idea which, if any, are the reason he is committed.
What a hideous system.

Yeah it's been largely reported about Payton being beat up with his ankle and shoulder. Dixs injuries have been more on the downlow and they haven't said as much about them I think it's more then his ankle. He's just beat up all over too I think.

The "Dix to Creighton" rumor was a lock on this board last Spring and Summer. How did that turn out? Old news.

That said, any fan for any team should not feel safe that any player on his team will not leave. Any player. That is what NIL and open transfer portal have done to the system.

Creighton is my second team. They pay much better than Iowa. So I hope if Dix leaves, that is where he goes. He would do well in that free flowing system.

Fran is a great coach with an impressive overall resume. He could retire tomorrow and be damn proud of all that he has accomplished. He would go out a winner. But, his NCAA Tournament record is a GLARING outlier on what is otherwise a HOF worthy career. But, right or wrong, March Madness is the measuring stick and his stick is quite short.

If anybody owed the Hawks some loyalty it should be Josh Dix.

Remember his senior year in high school, he broke his leg really badly? Iowa still honored his scholly, brought him in, rehabbed his leg and has turned him into a pretty damn good BB player.

That said, if anybody came in and offered him $1M to play there next year could you blame him if he went for it? I couldn't. And Creighton would be a great spot for him, the hometown team. McDermott has done a great job there, he recruits well, and they are competitive in the Big East on an annual basis.

Being the drum banger on the 1000-point club, I'd hate to see him leave shy of the club. He will have over 800 points by year end and will be so close.

But Kris Murray left a year early less than 100 points short of the club and could have joined his dad and brother. So, maybe it's not that important. It is a nice legacy, though.

He did take Siena to the Sweet 16, they year before he came to Iowa, I think.

How do you find out how much a certain school pays transfers?
