IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa freshman forward Tyler Cook fractured his right index finger and is expected to miss approximately three weeks. The announcement came Tuesday from head coach Fran McCaffery.
The injury took place during practice while the team was at the Emerald Coast Classic last week in Niceville, Florida. Cook had surgery today in Iowa City and did not make the trip to Notre Dame.
“After discussions with Tyler and the medical staff, it was determined that surgery was the best treatment for Tyler in terms of proper healing and recovery time,” said McCaffery. “We expect Tyler to make a full recovery and look forward to him rejoining his teammates on the court soon.”
Cook, who started the first six games of his collegiate career, ranks second on the team in scoring (13.7 points per game) and rebounding (5.3 rebounds per game).
Cook is the second Hawkeye to miss time because of injury this season. Senior forward Dale Jones sustained a fracture in his right wrist against Seton Hall on Nov. 17, and is expected to be sidelined another eight weeks.
