Iowa post-game shenanigans were unforgettable

My daughter and I were out on the field. I stood on about the 50 yard line and had tears running down my face I was laughing so hard watching the goalposts being carried up the stairs.

The Dome people kept saying there were high school playoff games that night so "please clear the field". I think the fans would have left the goal posts alone but the Dome people and cops kept getting after the fans. After the fans tore down the posts they paraded it around the field and carried it up the stands trying to get it out the door, what a site.

Finally the Dome people (sounds like futuristic clan of brutal people) started blaring very high pitched noise through the PA system like they were trying to drive a bunch of rats or insects out of the building, that was so weird and stupid and just made the fans rowdier for extra time.

It wasn't until after the feedback/alarm they did over the PA that the Iowa fans decided to take down the goal posts. I'm convinced it never would have happened if they just would have let Iowa fans celebrate, which is all they wanted to do.

You know you are somebodys ***** when...they tear down YOUR goalposts.

I was there w/2 of my boys. Left DSM@5am to drive up. Fortunately we were in the nosebleeds or the boys would have joined the parade on the field. Announced crowd of over 65,000 and estimated 45k were in black n gold. It was EPIC!!!
All the Hawks were sporting roses after the game as we were 8-0 in conference play.

+1

The Iowa fans just wanted to celebrate and there were security guards tackling random fans and dragging them off. The celebration went on and it wasn't until about 20-30 minutes after the game ended that the Iowa fans tore down the goal post because of the high pitched noise. It looked like it was really an after thought. The Metrodome people were just sore losers and overreacted.

I think there were plans for the Minnesota Marching Band to perform after the game so that may be why they reacted so harshly against the Iowa fans.

It was pretty fun to watch. Especially when they were carrying the upright up the stairs.

I was there with another couple from Minnesota. I would alternately revel in the take-over and try not to put in in their face too bad. Wasn't easy. Fun night.

On a related note, it was also great how we destroyed them 55-0 in their last game in the Metrodump. A local radio show was projecting the remaining games on the Vikings' schedule a few weeks ago. They thought Minnesota would win the home finale' as they'd be extra fired-up for the last game in the Dump. I called in an said "How'd that work out for the Goophers?'

As postgame celebrations on the road go, that will go down in history as the most "in your face, we own your venue" celebration in the history of college football. Only in Minnesota would that be allowed to happen. "oh, gee golly, what are the Iowan's doing there, eh. I think they may be taking the goal posts to have the painted or something." ******* Minny fans.

I was there as well and was right of the middle of it with my brother and sister. Senior year of college. Mom and dad stayed in the stands and took pictures. I have a few good ones where you can see the process of the goalpost getting taken off of the field. I will have to post them from my computer at some point when I get back from Tampa.

I was there but was with a gopher friend. We left right after the game to continue drinking downtown where it was at least 10-1 Iowa fans to goofy fans.

We made it on the field and I'm the very last person on the ESPN feed that they show before they sign off as they carry KF into the tunnel. Still one of the best moments of being a Hawkeye fan ever.

Went back to the bar afterwards and can't remember anything except there was a ton of Iowa fans.

So why would you storm the field against a down minnesota team, which you were obviously favored?

Not much for history are you? (understandable, considering). Then again, you guys were at the peak of the Seneca era and on your way to the Humanitarian Bowl. So you were rightfully distracted.

Undefeated Big Ten season and trip to the Rose Bowl. Pretty big game. BTW, that "down" Gopher team was 7-4 coming into that game (finished 8-5)...which was better than Saint Seneca's clone squad (7-7).

Minny metrodome personnel deserved it....i remember being there at the game in the 90's where they instituted the "noise rule" against Iowa...the visiting team.

There were so many Hawk fans there and when the minny qb would complain, the crowd would only get louder as the minny fans would also then chime in with the overwhelmingly majority Hawk fans. Iowa was warned, then penalized at least once, maybe more. Back when Nick Bell was breaking tackles.
