Iowa opened -6 vs. NIU...Now -10

Quick point. Anybody remember the Arizona game in 2010? That line moved a lot, especially the last day or two towards Arizona. Big betters came in at the last minute and moved the line. Looks like they were right too.

Like someone said earlier, we need to give em a Hayden Fry whoopin' so that these young players can get game experience. We need them to grow up fast.

Vandenberg is a proven commodity. Rudock needs some game action ASAP.

That is a huge movement, leaving books open to a large chance to middle. Considering early money is considered "sharp" money makes it even more crazy that the line has moved that much. People with a lot of money think Iowa is going to win this game comfortably. Don't be surprised if there is a large swing back the other way the day of the game as a 4+ point middle is pretty big.

Most week one lines have been out since late July for some books- there's been too much action laid on Iowa for this to drop. If it gets off that hard number, even though I'm late to the party; I'll be putting something on it!

...which will never happen.

Not because Iowa isn't capable; because KF is "respectful".

I dont see a 31 point lead in this one, at least not on paper. NIU is not a pushover team; they have a lot of beef on both sides of the line (check out NIU roster/depth chart) so it'll be really interesting to see how our OL and DL hold up. I have no idea if the NIU OL/DL are any good but they definitely have some size.

This, I'm still amazed at some that think this means Vegas thinks Iowa will win by 10. Vegas doesn't care who wins as long as they make money and they adjust the lines as needed to make sure equal amounts are being bet on each side for them to make their profit.

I'm aware of how the lines work. My point in this thread is that a 4 point swing is huge. Not often seen without some major injury or off the field news. Public perception and bettors are clearly in favor of Iowa in this one, which makes me feel good about this game. My point on taking a 10 point win is just that, I'd be happy with winning by 10.

I think the Hawkeyes win this one easily. Maybe close for a half and then the Hawks will take control.

If it is close in the 2nd half - I am going to be extremely nervous. I really think this will be a 14 point win or more. From what I have heard, NIU offense is new, and while iowa's defense is relatively new, there is still quite a bit of experience there, and a new coordinator wanting to come out and make sure people don't 2nd guess his hire. I think you will see blitzes and a lot of pressure on their qb. I don't know as much about NIU defense, but I think Vandenberg will have time to throw the short passes and the O line will open up some holes for whoever runs the ball. Iowa 31 - 14. Go Hawks.

NIU returns a lot of starters on defense but the returning starters were horrible. They gave up a lot of yards and points last year. 89th in pass defense. 85th in points allowed (they gave up over 40 to Kansas, 60 to Toledo) 73rd in rush defense.

As you said their offense lost alot. Harnish, their all time leader in almost all QB stats and he was also their leading rusher last year. THey lost their top RB who gained 1,000 yards or close to it. All five offensive lineman and they will be starting 3 redshirt freshman on the OL.

This game should not be close.

I thought Rudock was our #3?

I hope you're right! Sounds encouraging.

There's a million reasons why it should be at -13.5 or -16.5 or something. Which NIU fan has so much confidence in their young, inexperienced offense that they think NIU will/can beat a 10 point spread against a B1G school? Smart money is STILL taking Iowa on this one.
