Iowa opened -6 vs. NIU...Now -10

I wonder if it's the knowledge that the only returning offensive lineman from NI broke his leg and won't play. I guess he was their leader and made all the line calls. I hope our DL can show promise and dominate a new starting group with little experience. If not, it could be a year when we see opposing B10 teams just smashmouth us...ie Michigan State, Michigan, and Nebraska.

10 point win to open the season would be alright by me. I really want to see the young guys get into a groove and build their confidence.

Lay the points...Iowa wins this one early, rain or shine. Line changed so much because of tremendous one sided action by the betting world. Wouldn't surprise me to see it move another point or two yet.

My biggest concern with a team this young and inexperienced is playing well away from Kinnick. Even on a neutral field we need to come out strong and prove that we can play on the road, regardless of the opposition.

So much depends upon attitude. If they show up young, hungary and eager to prove themselves it will be a fun day (and season) for us Hawkeye fans.

I'm not worried about their attitude. I'm confident their attitude will be fine, especially for the 1st game of the year. I'm more worried about jitters and lack of confidence, especially when faced with some adversity during the game.

I don't have a logical reason why, but I feel really good about this game. I'm afraid the Hawks only end up with 6 or 7 wins, but somehow I think we start strong.

I miss the Hayden Fry crushing Iowa wins on opening day scores like 53-13. Would love to see this on Saturday. In Texas they don't play to be polite.

I think you may be on to something (about the C)-typically this is a pretty good sign for the team who is favored. Opening lines can be exploited, but after they have been open awhile you better know something a lot of other very experienced betters don't to go against a spread that moves this much.

Ill take Iowa at anything below -14.

Small schools like NIU will always struggle breaking in a new QB vs the big boys.

Let's put Maine back on the schedule or Middle Tenn. Geez, I'd rather see us play a team with the potential to beat us. It only prepares you for the rest of the season. I know that doesn't do much to guarantee the "bowl game"...but you know what, you have get better and beating up the weak sisters of the poor, doesn't make you better...it gives you false confidence.

I think this is more a function of the oddsmakers wanting to even out the money being bet than them thinking we'll now win by 10 rather than 6. Evidently most of the money was being put down on Iowa and they need to even it out.

This, I'm still amazed at some that think this means Vegas thinks Iowa will win by 10. Vegas doesn't care who wins as long as they make money and they adjust the lines as needed to make sure equal amounts are being bet on each side for them to make their profit.

But do you think KF will let the young guys play if the starters only lead by 10? We are talking Mr. Conservative here.
I would like to see a lead big enough to allow Rudock to play about a half.

Homers dropping $50 a pop online are not what drives the line to move in big amounts. It's big betters that know their craft and drop big $$$ that move the lines. And those people don't bet games because they bleed black and gold, they bet because they know something. So yes, the line moves because of the money bet on a particular side, but most of the time that money is coming in for a reason.
