Iowa/Oklahoma Game Thread

This is a good game for the guys to learn from. Also keep in mind that if Iowa was hitting their normal three point average this game would be going down to the wire. It’s just one of those games. Freeman has got game. Give him two more years and he is going to dominate.

One for twenty on three pointers. Normal we hit seven of those. That’s twenty-one points. Just hit the average and this game could go either direction.

The offense will be OK, altho I'm beginning to wonder if PMac shouldn't come off the bench. He's bringing little to nothing to the team right now: can't shoot beyond 10 ft, doesn't rebound strongly, misses FTs, and disappears for long periods of the game. Krikke and Freeman are a formidable duo, and would help with rebounding...might also open up more of an inside/out game to free up our 3 pt shooters if teams are committed to playing man D on Sandfort to take him out of the game. Problem is, who do you rotate in for those guys in the middle then -- Mulvey?
The Defense will be a liability all year long. Every backcourt player has subpar first-step defensive reaction, including Bowen, Sandfort, and Perkins. And the 2nd team of Dix and Sandfort (2) is no better. They're gonna have to play more zone or matchup zone down the road, but that often gets ugly too.

I've been high on Freeman since he tore a basketball support OUT OF THE WALL. He's a real pure center. Defends the low post, with some nice low post footwork and blocks. This may seem like an odd comparison, but Owen's footwork looks like a typical Jan Jensen center. I think he knows his place is the lane. The one step, and he showed he can reserve that as well. Little hooks, layups, etc...

Unlikely we will see a lot of 3-20 kind of 3 ball shooting. This game again goes to show Payton's importance, he hits a high percentage of threes, we can hand with anyone, but when comes out cold, we lag behind.

A lot going on right now in Iowa athletics, just in case you can’t check in, they look much better today than yesterday. Not sure how good Seton Hall is, tho.
