Iowa Offers '19 QB Alex Padilla

It is amusing to see all the negative responses about a kid that is still in high school and has not played a down of college ball. The reviews coming from the Jenkins website were pretty good considering they have been working with him for a few years but since we have seen a few highlights on Hudl, we can tell if he is going to be all BIG10 or not.

A LOT can change very quickly in football. I think we need to keep it positive and welcome the kid and I hope he works his tail off. Whether or not the kid is the number one QB doesn't mater to me Having those back-up guys that are competitive and you can trust are almost more important. If you have no confidence in the guys behind the starters it will affect everything from practice to play calling in the games because you can't let anything happen to the #1 guy.

I think Iowa learned a big lesson in 2009 when Stanzi went down. They had a legitimate chance to play in a BIGTIME game at the end of the year. By not preparing Vandy better than they did we shot ourselves in the foot and it cost us during those games he stepped in. We need guys that are willing to compete and put in the work. I don't think we need guys that are willing to jump ship because things don't go their way.

Article in BHGP says he had offers from some Ivy League schools as well as Boise St and Oregon St. 247 didn't list the last two offers so who knows.

I don't really care if he can play! Obviously the staff thinks he can.

Prototypical KF QB...few mistakes, not much foot speed, can hand off tackle to RBs...call in punter...work for field position.

This day and age of quarterbacking, a quick release is so important. If he has good vision and anticipation skills, that'd be all the better. Maybe he's another Baker Mayfield who knows.

OK, I'm being silly now.

I gotta say I'm not sure about this one. We're his only P5 offer. He's a 6'1 pocket passer with a low release and he's not very fast. He plays out here in Denver, so maybe I'll catch 1 or 2 of his games this year.

Little off the mark on this assessment. I wonder if the typical suspect change their tune on Padilla?

I think I feel better about him sticking with Iowa, knowing he's going to enroll at the semester. Pretty late to be flipping...I hope.

I'd have to see more recent film. His physical shortcomings are a lil too much for me.
Is he about the same size as that CB kid that's going to TCU? Just not as athletic? GA offering Padilla is a head scratcher to me but I don't know what the tie in would be. There must be something

That's a good comparison. I'd say Duggan is definitely more mobile and quicker. Probably has a stronger arm as well.
About the same size, maybe Duggan has an inch on him, not sure. I know Padilla is supposed to have good footwork and is highly intelligent. I'm thinking that Georgia and Iowa are placing quite a bit of value on those things, and they wouldn't necessarily be wrong in doing so. I'm just skeptical of his upside physically. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Padilla is plenty athletic. We don’t need Michael Vick back there. Stanzi wasn’t overly athletic and didn’t have a cannon and he worked out just fine. Georgia expects to compete for national championships. They aren’t going to offer just anyone at QB.

I appreciate the kids loyalty. But:

1) Georgia plays for National Titles
2) They have NFL receivers every year
3) Have you seen the women in Athens?

Holy crap...for #3...they dress up for games...dresses and they get all dolled up. It was the strangest damn thing I'd ever seen, but I was ok with it. It was a bit distracting though.

Hope the kid sticks...I guess you could also say, the competition at Iowa is going to be alot easier than at Georgia.
