Iowa Offers '19 QB Alex Padilla

I gotta say I'm not sure about this one. We're his only P5 offer. He's a 6'1 pocket passer with a low release and he's not very fast. He plays out here in Denver, so maybe I'll catch 1 or 2 of his games this year.

tk, sounds like you live in Denver. I did for 20 years through '13, so we know the Cherry Creek is a major HS program in CO.

folks, this kid looks pretty damn sharp. wears a knee brace so that might be affecting his stock, but that's just a guess. doesn't have the strongest arm, but is accurate, including deep. strong arm on mid-range throws, quick release and quick decision making. i'd also suggest throwing a ship to WR #1.

Here is how this went down.

Padilla came to the Iowa camp last week and impressed. Then Jacob Clark committed to Minnesota. Once that happened Iowa has now offered Padilla. It also seems Iowa has backed off a few of the other QB's they have offered. Reading the tea leaves it seems like Iowa really wanted Clark, but he committed to Minnesota, and they like Padilla enough to offer him and it seems he has leap frogged the other QB's on the board.

Ah, the old "Iowa is only P5 offer".

if you're being sarcastic, please ignore. my sarcasm button is in the shop.

but if you're not, then i really suggest you look at his hudl video. not the strongest arm deep, but is accurate, does throw with velocity up to mid range throws, has touch, quick release, makes quick decisions. i think this is a potential steal. time will tell.

Edit: And he actually is really mobile in the pocket.

70% or very close is not something to over look.
In the pros that's Drew Brees. In college, Colt McCoy.
In HS, idk, but a brief look says not to many can do it.
Let's see how much he keeps working at his game and if he got lucky or if he can do it again in his sr year. But the numbers say he might have a huge upside and Ken knows what he is looking for.
The qb room looks good, the ol room looks good, the rb room has a little room, but isn't bare by a long shot, the te room looks awesome. That means all eyes are on the wr room.

The reason I like this is because I don't think we were likely to land another Petras type in '19 and then again in '20. But this kid shows that potential that he is a legit prospect and one who can allow iowa to perhaps not RS Petras. So, AP RS in '19 and looks to be a 2 year starter when Petras leaves in '21. And, as I said, AP looks to have that potential and upside that he could develop into a very good 2 yr starter. Now, we don't have to get that Stanley/Petras type until '20 and perhaps even '21.

With the new redshirt rules Petras will be redshirt this year I'd bet, unless Stanley goes down with an injury. Petras could play up to 4 games and still keep his RS.

perhaps. so let petras play in 4 games to get some good film on him and then RS. yeah, that actually makes sense and could now be default for many programs. but now i don't think they need to worry about stretching the gap between Petras and Stanley.

I swear you guys are trolling me now. :)
I know, let's have a position where we have a different guy play 4 games each and redshirt them all!!

Ricky Stanzi?

I read where someone compared him to Rudock. Well If by that he thinks this kid will transfer at some point I would agree with that. Who would be willing to bet if this kid ends up graduating from Iowa? Nothing really impresses me about this kid. He hadn't impressed many others gauging by list of only non power 5 offers either and with the way Iowa has Mansell and Petras on the roster I can't see this kid getting a sniff of game reps unless something crazy were to happen till his RS jr or senior yr and nobody seems to be willing to ride the bench that long.

KF 2.0 is more of the belief that everyone competes and we go from there.
He still has this summer and all next fall and half the winter, if he enrolls early.
Let's just let everyone compete before we start speculating.
