Iowa not as good nor Michigan not as bad

as last night's outcome.

I swear, the last time I saw such a bad game plan for Michigan was the DNC and Hillary Clinton's bad game plan against Trump.

Michigan has all those athletes yet they (out of complacency, I guess) decided to think they could just overpower Iowa's defense. Quite remarkably, that is the hallmark of Iowa's defense. Not to beat an offense with athleticism but to overpower them. This is why Iowa's defense is so inept against good spread offenses that use their athleticism against the Iowa defense's lack of the use of athleticism. Michigan's offense ran right into the strength of Iowa's defense. Then Michigan's QB got hurt in the last quarter which limited their offense even more.

Side note:What is wrong with CJ? Is he still injured from last season? Injured from this season? Does he have PTSD from all the hits? CJ's arm seems the same but his 'sideward' mobility? Whatever, CJ is not the same QB as last season.

What's wrong with CJ is our pass protection sucks.
I saw one replay from last night's game where CJ was being rushed and he threw the ball out of bounds even though he was still in the tackle box and got flagged for it because there was no Iowa receiver in the vicinity. In the replay, I saw Wadley all by himself just at the line of scrimmage, about 7 yards from CJ waiting for a pass. Either CJ missed him or he panicked. Or both.

He's gotta be able to see the guy. I remember that play and CJ was under pressure almost immediately. He has to make split second decisions. Our line was not giving him any time at all. Our best passing play right now is the screen pass.

Are you saying he panicked as he was being drug to the ground? He threw the ball away in a desperate attempt to avoid a sack.

Maybe that's what I'm referring to. That CJ expects to get rushed so he panics, immediately. PTSD. Does CJ have the same confidence? Does that confidence rub off on the rest of the team?

To answer the op, you don't decide how good or bad a team is with one game. We know how good Michigan is by watching them all year and we know how bad Iowa is by watching them all year.

But he was getting rushed and pulled to the ground as he threw the ball away.

No, that play might've been another time where CJ was under tremendous pressure. There seems to have been OLine breakdowns, receiver breakdowns, and QB breakdowns all contributing to Iowa's bad passing attack this season.

I wish the Iowa team that played last night had been playing the prior 9 games...

CJ is a shell of himself...

Give KF credit...he has decided to put his best offensive talent in the game more often and give him more touches. Well done!

Iowa over Michigan...sweet...new contract!

Really impressed with Iowa's defensive front...immovable for much of the game.

Hold a top 3 team to 40% of their normal offensive production...amazing.

Anyone have a link to the Harbaugh post game comments...

Defense played well, but if their QB played well at all they would gave had 3 long TD passes. We were burned several times, and he flat out missed the receivers.

That is some of it, but even with time, he's off.

Love his grit, but there's more to his struggles.

Trim the beard, grow out the top maybe.

Still love the guy

Exactly!!! CJ isn't the guy many grew to love. Even when he gets protection he doesn't pull the trigger. Watched game again today and notice 2 or 3 instances last night where CJ looked as if he would pass and pulled it back.

This is true but I do think the Iowa pass rush helped with this. Even when they were not applying pressure he was acting like he could hear footsteps. I bet Speight is a little sore this morning.

This is the most accurate, I love CJB, buts he's not who we thought he was. Without tevsun, vandebrg and Krieger-coble he's slightly above average.

I wouldn't be surprised if he broke his collar bone. The way he was holding his arm after his last pass didn't look good.

To the OP I think Ssckelley's point about Iowa's pass rush affecting Speight's inaccuracy downfield, I think CJ has been affected in the same way. He has been under such consistent pressure all year that even when its not there that badly, he's feeling and getting gun shy at time and others rushing the ball and overthrowing it. He's definitely not comfortable back there. There were a couple times last night where he could have stepped up into the pocket and maybe avoided the rush but bailed out instead and Iowa took a loss.

CJ is just bad this year. Stats back that statement up. He doesn't have the "it" factor he had last year. On that pick on the deep pass, he could have thrown it a LOT sooner (my angle at the game was damn near identical to what he was seeing) and Smith was open IMMEDIATELY. But he held onto the ball and made a piss poor throw. The throw to mccarron was bad too. I was the biggest sunshine homer 2 years ago, but I think it's time to get some other players a bit of playing time, you know who I'm talking about

I would state this as "we know how bad Iowa can be". The hawks can play well, and I think some of it is when the ball, blocks, tackles etc go there way or they make them go their way.

They fell flat in the 2nd half against NDSU and lost by 2 pts, lost by a TD against jNW and Wisky, the offense didnt play well those games but the only really bad game was PSU.

A big 10 win over Mich totally shows the anomaly of NDSU where the hawsk with a couple of blocks and catches could have been ahead of NDSU 24+ at halftime.

It was nice seeing energy from defense.

Offense is still an issue, and if not for Wadley we lose. He did it all.

What is frustrating is this team mirrors it's coach. Only when heat is on does this team perform.

Now that everyone is happy again, my fear is we look nothing like this team against IL

Remember after beating Penn State in 08 we struggled at Purdue the following week. Needed 2 huge plays by Greene to win.
