Iowa-Nebraska Friday Game OK'd By Big Ten

Nebby fans completely dismiss our program and our chances if winning despite our programs similar successes in the most recent decade. I do NOT want this to be an isu/Nebraska type of series. We have to get a win SOON.

It would be a huge upset if Iowa won this year in Lincoln. Iowa looks to be mediocre and Nebraska pretty good. Not a recipe for a win in a stadium like that. I would be happy if Iowa won once every ten years in Lincoln.

If we can ever get back to what we were 2002-2005, and if we would of ayes nebby then I say we split with them or even have the upper hand. If we don't get things back in a hurry this will be a one aids affair.

Once I understood the plight that the current administration puts its athletics programs in, I don't expect Iowa to compete for much more than .500 seasons in anything. Athletics just aren't important to the current administration. The recent results reflect that.

Can you expand on that for those of us who live outside of Iowa? I don't know much of anything about the current University Administration. I go back to the W Boyd days and he wasn't much of a supporter of athletics. Friedman maybe was.

The football program is the lifeline for the entire athletic department, and prevent a need to funnel additional funds from the general fund. Not to mention providing excellent exposure the school nationally.
So, I see your point about the administration not giving a rip about its success is full thought (sarcasm).
Trolliollio!

That's the point, the administration doesn't care about or use the athletic dept success for positive exposure nationally. That doesn't exist under this administration. The current administration views the two(school & athletics) as separate entities that don't/shouldn't/can't work to promote the other. Academia has simply told athletics to get off the tit and not produce negative press. Don't call us, we'll call you. That's why Marcus Coker is at Stony Brook folks.

That simple minded ignorance at the University of Iowa is astounding. It is mismanagement that only Iowa can produce. Not even Iowa St is that dumb.

Trey makes a very good point most dont know. People need to be active in letting their opinions be known on this subject. He is right about Coker too. The school put the kid in a really bad situation and he just left. Had not one thing to do with KF.

Won't be this year. Nebby will have way too much team speed on offense for our D.

It's not that the university officials are dumb. It's just that they have been feminized. What you are seeing now is the feminitst philosophy in full force. Makes me sick to even realize this. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PUKE!!!!!!!!!!

Its ignorance more than anything. They can't see that with winning athletics programs the entire university will benefit. Enrollment will increase & the funding that goes with it; opening opportunities for more women, minorities, etc... Its mismanagement the likes we've not seen before. Tax payers in the state of Iowa are getting pwned like no one ever has.

To the feminists that run the university, all that you mentioned is meaningless because football is a sport that doesn't allow for girls to play it. Football recognizes the differences between men and women, and the feminists believe the differences should nevr be talked about.

"A lady can do anything a man can do but better."

That's what you're dealing with here at the U of communist I.

Other than the nearly automatic W Nebraska will get each season I don't understand why they'd want this game on that day. I'd bet if we asked Husker fans, they'd prefer Wisconsin in that spot & I think it ultimately ends up that way.

I'm not so sure. I know that a lot of Husker fans have an obsession with Wisconsin and the Alvarez tie, but I'm not one of them. I would like to have a great Husker/Hawkeye rivalry (as it seems like a more natural rivalry) but the divisional title would have to be the prize more often than not for that to happen. Much like OU in the 60's-80's and CU and KSU in the 90's.

Because it's tradition. NU's played on Black Friday (or 'Husker Friday' as I call it) since 1990. But to your point, I agree with you, right now - would rather they play the likes of Michigan (never gonna happen) or Wisconsin. Playing Oklahoma as the last game of the season, usually for all the marbles in the Big 8, meant a big game. The Hawkeyes just don't have the fire in the belly right now. Will it change? I hope so.
This is correct.

No, we don't completely dismiss your program, we just dismiss the premise that the nice run Iowa had for 8 or 9 years not so long ago is somehow akin to the run we had from the 60's until 2001. It's no secret that since 2000, Iowa and Nebraska have had very similar track records of success. IMHO, we have plateaued in the past few years, it looks like Iowa has taken a step or two back.

I will agree though, that if Iowa doesn't step up and make this game competitive, win it, and challenge for divisional/conference championships, we will look at it more as the NU/ISU game than we do a true rivalry.

That being said, at this point, it's not like Nebraska is the Nebraska of the 90's, or even Alabama of today. Obviously we can be beat, and I wouldn't chalk this game up as an annual Nebraska stomping of your Hawks.

You've certainly captured the attitude of some of the faculty, though I knew plenty who were huge Hawkeye fans. Generally speaking, once they get promoted to the level where they're actually accountable for university budgets, they start to understand how athletics can help the academic mission and energize donors.

Ironically, the UI president who "got it" the least was a man - Hunter Rawlings.

I've never heard ANYONE claim to believe such foolishness. Maybe such idiots do exist out there, somewhere.

Lots of truth here, and it's happening throughout our entire society.
