Iowa National Title Hopes Take Beating Tonight

Oregon just made USC look overrated at No. 5 in the BCS. I think we're underrated in the human polls (all three of them). I still think the computers will make us No. 1, unanimously.

All I want is the Rose Bowl. A chance to take my wife and kids on a trip they will never forget. That's what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown...

Couple of things:
1. I think there is a better chance that both Florida and Alabama lose a game than Texas at this point. 'Bama has to play LSU and Auburn (about the same as Iowa-ISU), while Florida has S Carolina and Florida St. another in state rival.
2. Do we want Penn St. to beat OSU next week and basically assure us of a Rose Bowl trip, or do we want OSU to win which would probably put them up to about 12 in the polls so that when we beat them it is a better looking win than beating a OSU team that is ranked 20-25 if even in the top 25

People said Kirk(ESPN) was an "iowa" fan (last couple of weeks), but he just threw iowa out of the top five..When will Iowa get some respect from these people. We beat Indiania by 18, in the big ten world that is a damn good win. We should stay where we are ranked, if we are dropped from this game we have no hopes for an NC. But hey, when is the rose bowl something to cry about!GO HAWKS

Don't know what's going to happen the rest of the year, but the Hawks, especially Stanzi, couldn't possibly play worse than they did today.

I agree Stanzi did not play well today, but you cant say the D didnt man up and keep us in the game. I also think if there was not any wind today the game was a rout. The two times he under threw DJK were products of the wind. Great teams have great players who make great plays to win games.

Parker making the adjustments against the spread gives me confidence against any team we play. I look forward to the next three games we have the players to play with anyone in the country there is no question about that.

I realize Iowa's NC hopes are slim, but I think a good chance for a Bama loss is the Iron Bowl to Auburn. Isn't this fun to dream? Also of all the Little north 12 teams I think Nebraska is the team that could compete with Texas with it's D.

I really don't beleive there have every been any realistic national title hopes this year. The key is next year. Finish strong even if its with a loss, go the Rose Bowl and beat Oregon. Set the table for next year! Come out of the gate strong and and we'll all be rewarded.

Some of you must have forgotten already that Boise State dominated Oregon this year. I can't believe the pollsters would put Oregon ahead of them, and yes I realize that the coaches/harris poll voters aren't the brightest. However, they know what the reaction would be if Oregon jumped BSU.

I think next year could be a lot of fun...but I am not ready to pencil in 12-0 or 11-1. Next year's team could be better than this year's team and not start 9-0...Iowa is winning every close game imaginable this year, and that just does not happen every year.

Agreed. Just because we get Wisconsin, MSU, PSU, OSU at home doesn't mean those games are going to be easy to win. Wisconsin could be really, really good next year as well.

Lets assume Iowa does go 12-0.

I dont think Texas loses a game this year. Will kill Kstate in B12 title game. They look great. They are in the NC game.

Bama maybe loses to LSU. UF will run the table until the SEC championship game. So we need LSU to beat bama, then bama to beat UF in the SEC Championship game.

Otherwise, its Rose Bowl (and thats freaking awesome too, but sucks to go 12-0 and not get a shot at NC).

You know, the four losses by the Hawks last year were by a combined 12 points, iirc. They've won all their games this year by a combined 89 points, less than 10 points per game. It seems we're now winning the games we lost last year.

Jon,

You of all people should know better......

Remember K-State against Oklahoma in the B12 championship? Colorado against Nebby in the B12 championship? Ole Miss against Florida last year? The UCLA/Miami hurricane make-up game? Tennessee against Arkansas in the SEC Championship? And on and on and on....

The point is this.....It's foolish to start playing prognosticator with other teams' schedules given the history of college football at the end of the year. It's always interesting to see what happens with 18-22 year olds (not to mention 50 year old coaches) when the pressures of an undefeated season start weighing more and more heavily on them.....especially against teams who have absolutely nothing to lose. Who says Baylor or Kansas or A&M doesn't play out of their mind and upset Texas? Who says someone in the SEC doesn't play out of their mind and upset Florida and/or Alabama?

I guarantee that if Iowa goes undefeated they will be in the NC game.

Last week will be the best Iowa will have in computer ranking the rest of the way...I know they can't be higher than 1, but I think they will start falling back...not a ton, but a couple spots will make a difference

Jon if we win out I totally disagree. I think OSU will be very near top 10 in two weeks and Penn state will be top 10 at the end of the year. If AZ can pull some victories off they will be top 20.

WE win out the computer puts us at # AND the human polls put us at #4. If we beat OSU at the shoe the human pollsters will have us at no worse than #4.

Our victory at Penn State is HUGE. I forgot about Wisconsin too.

How many one loss teams will be in front of Iowa in the human polls? I bet Oregon takes USC's spot ahead of us. LSU as well? Or do you think the voters will give us some love for STILL being undefeated.

I just looked at CFN poll out this morning. They (like everyone else) still hate Iowa. Oregon did take USC's spot in their poll, and surprise, surprise, USC with 2 losses (and one being that woodshed beating last night at Oregon) USC still didn't drop out of the top ten. How in the name of sanity does a team get to loose 2 conference games and still stay in the top 10????? Well, if you have money to buy players-you are probable buying sports writers too.

It's funny aint it folks....they mention that early season loss USC had, (Oregon had one too) and they just overlook it....you know...an aberation....a bad night....and it's OK. But that early season win for Iowa over UNI....a WIN mind you....it's a strike against you. I could go on a make some very insensitive comments about those writers-but their stupidy speaks for itself.

dont care. only care about winning and going undefeated!! that would be so cool to do if we were able to do it. ROSE BOWL CHAMPIONS has a great ring to it! Come on Hawkeyes.
