Iowa "must adapt" podcast

The college two-point conversion rate is about 44% and Iowa has been 0-10. You'd think we would have fallen into the end zone one time in the last ten, just out of sheer randomness.

Tells me the coaching staff doesn't put enough emphasis on coming up with plays each week in practice. This last one was probably the best play design I've seen from the last ten that I can remember.

Damn, I was going to guess like a 33% success rate. That is just total failure and beating the odds at the wrong side of things. And it is not surprising at all.

Just to address some things in this post:

1. Our OL play has been horrific, and all with 2 nfl tackles, 2 fifth year seniors and a freshman center that is hardly the problem. The big change here is no matter the blocking scheme, polasek needs to get sent packing because there is no excuse for as many free rushers in both the pass and run game that come through our line. We have to lead the country in that stat. To me that is all coaching because those guys are clueless at times.
2. Our linebacker play has been extremely sub par. Injuries and youth are the reason here. That is why we haven't been able to stop the run. The d line is doing a pretty decent job of both pressuring and containing the quarterbacks, and we need the mlb to make plays and he hasn't. I guess doyle is the best of the rest after Welch and he is neither strong or quick enough to be a playmaker. On a side note, I always find it peculiar how Amani Jones went from starter to changing position from a bad quarter of play. His athletiscm and motor would have to be better than anything we are getting from the freshman right now and he sits on the bench.
3. Goodson is quick and all signs point to him being great. But right now he is no bell cow back. No bell cow back in the big ten should get tackled for a 3 yard loss by a defensive end reaching with one hand. He will get stronger and laugh at that later, but we need the hard yards.

Overall, I like our system because the alternatives, to me, are not any better. Wisconsin does the above things all better than us, but their lack of quarterback play will keep them from being elite, and who knows if there is another taylor in the pipeline there. If we go full rpo, or air raid spread, how can we compete against all the other teams who do it with better players. Our style of controlling the ball, keeping our defense off the field, and being balanced is a great recipe for winning in any era. The key has always been for us is to play with a lead and score touchdowns in the red zone.

I promise, if this staff, and I mean KF, BF, PP, make the necessary changes to get the offensive line back to dominance and get the linebacker play back to a dominant level.as many years past, we will win more games. That is with everything being the same. We can hope for a shonn greene or a Brad banks, it even without them with the above changes we are very very good. Will we put up 600 yards a game? No. But we won't need to.

I don’t care what kind of scheme Iowa runs on offense. If the o-line play is going to be the way, it’s going to be rough. The sad part is the personnel is pretty good. I mean geese, if you have 2 NFL tackles and a freshman center we all love, a guard who is our LT next year, what’s the problem with them?

something is way off on execution and coaching there. Most teams would trade o-lines with us in a heartbeat.

2015 was 5 years ago and that is an eternity in college sports, especially since they’ve been straight mediocre since

And Iowa royally pissed 2 opportunities down their leg last year and this year to put a stranglehold on the west. In Kirk Ferentz fashion, Iowa found a way to be mediocre and not get the job done.
