Iowa-MSU: What Is At Stake???

I don't necessarily care for the term "playing with house money" at this point of the season.

I think most of us agree that Iowa has one loss to play with, and that one loss is essentially the house money. The problem is, if I'm at a casino, and I'm to the point that I'm playing with house money if I lose it I cash out and leave.

Iowa can't cash out and leave if they lose their "house money" they still have to play four games.

Get to Ohio State 10-0...THEN you're playing with house money IMO.

Have a safe trip. It's not exactly the most scenic drive ever, but I really enjoyed East Lansing the one time I was there. It seems to get a bad rap from many people.

Great read as always and pretty much sums it up. I love the disclaimer at the very end but wonder if that is possible.

I'll tell you what else is at stake: a complete freak out by Hawkeye Nation. If Iowa wins this game, everyone on this board will automatically assume 10-0 is inevitable. Combine that with a loss of any of the top 3 can you've got mass hysteria (I don't include Cinci and Boise as Iowa would pass them no matter what they do, possibly this week). If Texas should go down at Mizzou (which is not unthinkable; Texas just came off a huge game and is playing on the road at night on national TV; this is a total letdown game), we would be staring #3 in the face, and #3 means #2 because either Florida and Alabama have to lose since they will play each other.

If we win tomorrow, the national championship game goes from pipe dream, to within grasp.

One thing, Jon, is that I'm not so sure Ohio St. can't fix its offense this season. Remember in 2004 when Iowa spanked Ohio State 44-7? If I remember correctly, after that game Troy Smith began to start at QB and the Buckeyes really started to use Ted Ginn in unique ways. I think Ohio State, despite its offensive woes, has a lot of talent of that side of the ball, and if they can figure out how to use their personnel correctly, they could have a very dangerous offense. Regardless, here's to another Hawkeye win and a step closer to an epic battle in Columbus!

Great read Jon. I mostly agree with what you said. I've been saying all week that this is one of the biggest games in Iowa football history. I personally am more worried about Northwestern than Ohio State right now. I really see us forcing Pryor to beat us. I don't see Pryor beating anybody.

This year's OSU team doesn't have a Tedd Ginn. The OL is not great and their WR corps is not yet ready for primetime.

WOW, I been dreaming of this since paying a buck to sit in the knot hole and watch the Hawks 40 years ago. I think this team will be ready, will be a tough game. Win the TO battle and I like our chances

Nerve-wracking? Absolutely. Does it beat the hell outta the alternatives? No doubt.
Just find a way to win,Hawks...but win or lose, the bumblebees will always support their beloved Hawkeyes.

Playing for all the marbles (sort of) -- this is fun and as Hawk fans we dont get to enjoy this very often.

Not to brag about hawkeye fans, but we have some of the most committed/ die hard fans anywhere. I would challenge anyone to find a more tight knit fanbase than the Iowa Hawkeyes. We have suffered through 1-10 seasons and off the field troubles. That being said, we deserve this excitement and hype. Its time the Hawkeyes made it back to a Rose Bowl and we have all been waiting patiently to enjoy it. So Hawk fans, remember these moments and enjoy the ride cause you deserve it.
