Iowa mentioned "on the bubble" by Seth Davis CNNSI

UNI won't be part of any NCAA conversation unless they win their tournament.

I would agree with this but also add that it's true of any team in the state of Iowa. Right now UNI, Iowa St and Iowa don't appear to have the teams to even get to the bubble. A lot would have to happen. One thing you could say for Iowa at this point though is that they have the best wins of any team in the state.

What do they call that Three-bowing?

I could easily be wrong, but wasn't Penn State in a similar position to Iowa last season? Nonconference season would suggest they weren't an NCAA tournement team, but b/w their play in conference and the overall strength of the conference they were able to play their way in. Again, I could be wrong... I just seem to be remembering it that way. Either way, we've still got a lot of work to do. Nice to even have the opportunity to discuss such a thing though GO HAWKS!

To even be mentioned as a possible bubble team, although in a somewhat negative manner, is a testament to how far we have come in a year and half under Fran. High national acclaim for the outstanding 2012 recruiting class, in addition to capturing media attention for the huge victories at Wisconsin and Minnesota plus defeating Michigan at Carver. The PR can only help. Potential high-rated recruits are starting to notice that Iowa is making mini-waves, and that is Progress.

:)

Goddammit, beat Clemson and Campbell (which we should have done really) and we are a bubble team.

Yes Sir!

7-4 Non Conference.
Losses at Mississippi 20-14 NIT
Home vs Maryland 19-14
At Va Tech 22-12 NIT
and a Home loss to 15-15 Maine!

9-9 Big Ten got them to 16-13

Then wins over
Indiana
Wisconsin and
Mich State got them to the big 10 title game.

They lost to Oho State but got in the dance at 19-14. They went 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Nice comparison. Penn State's tipping point was running their way to the Big Ten title game. The league appears tougher this year than last, so if the Hawks are able to make it to 9-9 in the league and win a game or two in the tourny, there is certainly some precedent for Iowa getting into the dance.

From a talent perspective the league was much better last season. CBB is just really down this year. The entire landscape was bad last year, but it is somehow worse this season.

Well the Big Ten while a solid second at worst in all of the conference rankings last year is even better this year. So we certainly have that working in our favor.
