Iowa @ ISU Gametime announced

Iowa wins this game.

My gut feelings the past few years have been spot on.

Iowa also surprises a lot of people this year, and does quite a bit better than many think. Last year was an exception, not the norm.

So your gut feelings called for 4-8 last year? I mean since they have been spot on, I guess that has to be so. :)

I don't buy into the myth of the late game, that being that the fans have all day to drink and will be more wound up and thus provide more of an edge/atmosphere than they normally would.

-People who use a college football game as an excuse to get heavily intoxicated will do so if that game is at 11am or 5pm. I doubt that there are less drunk people at an early game simply because they ran out of time to consume enough alcohol. People get up at 2 am to get a spot and start drinking.

-Being drunk doesn't give you a magic ability to be louder or cheer for more sustained periods, alcohlol does not increase phyiscal abilities only one's confidence in their physical abilities. The only possible extra advantage would be the increase is swearing or other belligerent behavior which is unlikely to be heard by the other team or affect them in any way if they do.

-Late games often coincide with big/rivalry games and thus you can attribute the veracity of the crowd's response to the circumstances of the game rather than the time of kick-off.

Agree teh last time I was wasted at Kinnick for a 2:30 game= headache, hot, and too ****** to cheer the whole game through. But man was I loud walking into the stadium and for the 1st qtr.

If it makes you feel better, I saw the CMU loss a mile away. Maybe that doesn't make you feel better.

I felt going into last year that it would be a long year. I didn't quite peg the 4-8 scenario, but I don't think anybody did.

Trust me on this, this year will be much better. Money in the bank.

I agree with this for the most part. More drunk fans won't make it any louder it will just make the word choices more inappropriate and vulgar. Honestly, it will result in more students thrown in the drunk tank prior to the game because they can't handle their alcohol. Two years ago I sat on one of the hills and their was a big fat girl in a skirt who was an ISU fan literally passed out drunk face down on a slab of concrete near the bleachers. She was all wet and god knows what was on her. People were taking pictures of her the whole time and she didn't move an inch. I'm still not sure how she didn't get kicked out or arrested.

The later time will end up in more arrests, and that's about it. It won't have any effect on the outcome of the game. As others have said, IMO this game is a toss up. ISU is at home and has a history of giving Iowa trouble. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see them eek out a win again. However, if Iowa's running back stable stays healthy they should have no problem putting up over 200 yards on ISU's defense. If that happens Iowa should win. Either way I expect it to be another close one.

If they aren't consciousness, they can't say no.

Oh yeah, a nightmare for us. Everyone knows that if you have a dominant offensive line (Iowa) and they have a untested subpar front seven, that a 5:00pm start and fan drunkedness, actually neutralizes this advantage. It's been proven over and over again. Nonsense...start time means nothing...ISU is going to lose in the trenches for four quarters. It may take some time to show up in the score, but trust me, it's happening.

Funny. Huge points.

Even though I believe the Isu defense will be very out manned against the Hawk O-Line, I think it will be fun to see how Wally Burnam coaches against G. Davis. Pretty obvious Wally would eat Greg's lunch if the talent was even, but Wally is so out talented here, I doubt there is anything he could do to stop Iowa from running the ball well. I bet he blitzes from the start and often.

I agree with you about Burnam...he's a master out of getting people in the right position and disrupting teams, sometimes with less than stellar talent. History will tell you, when Iowa has a dominate offensive line (2009 and 2010)...Wally has had a very hard time coming up with an answer defensively. I think this year shapes up much more like those two years...mostly because I think they are really going to struggle upfront. Our O-line may not be up to the 2009 group, but there front appears, on paper, to be very inexperienced.

Iowa State has had one "easy" win over Iowa since they made the series competitive again, and that was in 2005. History says that when Iowa wins, they win big regardless of venue. When ISU wins - save 2005 - it's a squeaker, regardless of venue.
Did you watch the game last year? I've never seen an easier win in my life. It looked like the Special Olympics of football.
