Iowa is winning again!

The wrestling program is actually relatively close to being a net revenue producer. When the reports come out they might just be this year. Recently wrestling expenses have been about 1.9 million, with about 1.5 million gross revenue. This year ticket sales are up, add the new TV contact and it might be enough to break 2 million to make a net profit. Being #1 helps a lot!

There are MAYBE 20 schools in the country that care about wrestling. I'm glad it's breaking even. But don't get wrestling confused with basketball and football. It is MUCH more important that Iowa become competent in volleyball and soccer, which have a MUCH greater base of kids playing it in HS, then in a sport that may not have enough NCAA schools to fit in a phone booth in 20 years.

I'm glad you wrote this, because that's the exact response that we'd get from Sally Mason. "Why are you whining about Iowa sports? Just go watch the women's basketball team! Aren't they great? What are you, sexist or something?"

I have all but gave up on HN because it is full of crybabies and posters from other schools that shouldn't even be on this board. A couple posters and I have started talking about the women's basketball team because they are very good and deserve to have a thread about them. So if all you want to do is rant and cry about football and men's basketball is where it's at then make your own thread about it or at least give the ladies a pat on the back for having a good season or just don't post!

This thread was originally about the women's team and the progress of their game against Indiana Sunday evening.

With that said, Mason's name was brought up so I posted a quote that shows of her attitude towards athletics. I am on the athletes side. What don't you understand about that? With a president who views athletics as a nuisance, it makes it even more difficult for athletes to succeed.

Now I understand. You brought Sally Mason' s name in because someone else mentioned Sally Mason' s name because why? Because Sally is a female or what. Just don't understand what Sally Mason has to do with the Iowa Women's Basketball Teams Thread. Yes I understand the Sally Mason thing but I just believe it should not be on this thread. This is just what HN is now. every thread becomes the same. Honestly, I think it's driving a number of objective posters away from posting. Don't let it get to ya too much, we need as many rational folks to keep posting as possible.

Not a lot to be objective about in Iowa City from an athletic standpoint these days. Sorry if you don't like the truth.

The women's BB team is extremely fun to watch and are about the only bright spot nationally for Iowa. Wrestling, while big in the state of Iowa, is not considered a main sport on the national scene.

So for those of you getting your panties in a wad, to bad.

I agree, they are playing inspired. Never said otherwise. I was one of the few who's been posting positive things earlier in the season when most others didn't know or care they existed. I also subscribed to Big Ten Plus just so I could watch them on my computer as not many of their games are on the BTN let alone ESPN. Win or lose, we know they are going to give it everything from the tip off to the final buzzer. The only sad thing is they are going to miss Logic and Doolittle next year in a big way. But thankfully they have some great players coming back and some very good ones coming in.

By the way, I'm quite relaxed. It's just when I see Mason's name mentioned anywhere I am going to go off on her. She can hardly stomach any of the Iowa athletes and her words speak very clearly on that matter.

I agree. Too many Debby Downers here. Everyone starts picking and then it becomes a *****-fest. Oh, and all of the negative posters seem to have the answer on how to fix whatever they perceive as wrong.
