Iowa/Iowa State Predictions

I'm with Shada, Iowa's defense giving up 23 points unthinkable.

I suppose I should add a caveat that it's possible if ISU gets a couple turnovers in Iowa territory and turns them into points. Add in bad possession on d, and it's possible ISU could score 23.

If the game is played straight up and turnovers are eliminated or cancel each other out, ISU doesn't stand a chance. They're going to need a lot of good things to happen, and for Iowa to make a lot of mistakes.

If Iowa can control the clock and pound that green front four into submission, they can win it going away.

To put it simply, it's going to take a complete meltdown by Iowa - in all three phases of the game - for ISU to win.

27-3 Iowa. For some reason I'm having a hard time seeing ISU score a td on our D.

I expect ISU to dink us all afternoon with the short underneath passes that we seem to give up too easily against them. I think they'll get one touchdown and close enough for a FG attempt or two.

Iowa gives that up to everyone; it's really the only area of the field where Iowa is consistently vulnerable on defense. Only a few QB's are patient enough to take it all the way down the field, (they all seem to play for NW) and Arnaud isn't one of them. He'll try to force something at some point, and somebody wearing a black jersey will end up with it.

I can tell you this...ISU is not going to have Arnaud sitting in the pocket for more than a couple of secs. He'll do short drop backs with a quick release...or he'll tuck it up and run. My guess is he'll do a lot of the "tuck it up and run" stuff early in order to slow down the pass rush of Iowa's front four. I think they'll be a lot of screens and trap draws as well in order to slow that front wall. So there will be a little but of a chess match early on in an effort to keep Iowa's front four on their heels a bit.

Arnaud may try to force something and create a few turnovers...but I wouldn't count on that if I were Iowa. He's going to be preached at all week NOT to take risks...I'm almost more afraid he'll be too cautious as opposed to too aggressive.

IMO This game will be close and hard fought for the first half. (17 - 13 Iowa) Some time in the 3rd qtr, Iowa's conditioning will begin to show. As Iowa State sees the game beginning to slip away they'll start to take chances. Result, takeaways and turn overs. At the end Iowa wins by 2 to 3 TD's. Last year Iowa's D gave up 16 points in 13 games in the 3rd qtr. This show good half time preparation and superior physical conditioning. It will continue this season.

GO HAWKS BEAT THE CLOWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly believe this will be a broken record by the time Saturday is over with.....Iowa will give away the little stuff, Arnaud will make mistake after mistake, when he isn't picking his *** up off of the turf....and the Hawks keep the end-zone drought fully in tact for ISU.

Exactly how I feel about it. He has been beaten by Iowa twice by doing these same things in both games. I think he may be overly cautious just for that reason as well. He will play the safe game because he wants to try and copy what Meyer did before him. Meyer had a lot of success against the Iowa teams when he played because he was smart. Only one problem to all of this logic...there is no more Todd Blythe (a.k.a Hawkeye Killer) around anymore. He will unfortunatley finally lead his team to a score this year though.

Iowa elects to receive the ball and Adam Robinson scores a 4 yard TD on the opening drive. ISU gets a FG early in the 2nd to make it 7-3. After a Hampton fumble in Iowa territory, Iowa has a goal line stand and forces another ISU FG. Iowa goes on a 80+ yard drive finished off with a beautiful 16 yard touchdown pass to McNutt near the end of the half to give Iowa a 14-6 lead at halftime. Binns returns in a big way using his freakish arms to pick up his first career interception in ISU territory leading to a Mossbrucker 35 yard FG midway through the 3rd making it 17-6 Iowa. ISU has a sustained drive early in the 4th threatening to tighten up the score. A tipped ball is hunted down by Tyler Sash and returned into ISU territory. On the next play, Jewel Hampton takes a screen pass down the middle of the field for a nifty 35 yard TD. Iowa puts in the 2nd team D late in the 4th quarter allowing Alexandar Robinson to pick up a garbage time TD near the end of regulation giving ISU its first TD against Iowa since 2006 and keeping Iowa from covering the spread.

Final: Iowa 24 - ISU 13

Stanzi - 21-27 for 235 yards with 2 TDs and 0 INTs
Robinson - 14 carries for 81 yards and 1 TD
Hampton - 15 carries for 72 yards, 1 Rec TD
DJK - 6 rec for 65 yards
McNutt - 7 rec for 102 yards and 1 TD

Arnaud - 17-29 for 169 yards, 10 carries for 42 yards with 0 TD and 2 INTs
Robinson - 21 carries for 68 yards and 1 TD
Franklin - 4 rec for 47 yards

I'm going to go with 21-9 Hawks.

ISU will use that tried and true formula where they blitz every single snap to try and get to Stanzi. While it doesn't bother Mr. America, it does start to wear on the young O-line. It keeps Iowa's offense out of rhythm and holds the running game down.

Iowa needs a late turnover for a score to finally blow the game open.

ISU finally scores a TD against Iowa in the 2nd half but they miss the extra point.

Iowa allows ISU to hang in the game with silly turnovers and poor coverage by the DB's. But Iowa's offense straps it on and has a 10 play time consuming drive in the 4th quarter. Sash gets INT #1 for the year as Arnaud tries to bring the cyclones back!

If the 1st part of your post is true I think Tyler Nielsen has his break-out game!
