Penn State 8-16 with an RPI of 222
Indiana 9-15 with an RPI of 206
NW 16-8 with an RPI of 79

Our opponents are a combined 71-114.
The average RPI is 224.
We've beaten 1 team with a top 150 in the RPI and 2 in the top 200.

As previously mentioned in the Gazette we are averaging 4,000 fans/game.

This is Iowa basketball, wow.

If we were doing the "blind" resume comparison like they do on ESPN, I wonder how would have a similar one to that :)

Probably 1-2 other BCS teams if that. It is fair to see we are one of the worst BCS hoops teams in the country. I am frankly unsure how Barta can continue to publically support Lickliter.

Are you not aware that we are supposed to ignore the facts and pretend we are seeing progress.

Now I am intrigued by the blind resume thing....here are some BCS schools to consider for such an experiment....

NC St
Nebraska
Colorado
DePaul
Rutgers
Oregon
Penn St
Indiana
LSU
Georgia

Iowa has become an irrelevant division I bb program at this point in time.

Hopefully Iowa can get out of the bottom three of the Big 10 next year. They wll still be irrelevant but hopefully better than this year and hopefully will beat at least one upper division team in the Big 10 next year.

OK....you show the teams we beat...now how about the records and RPI's of the teams that beat us??!! Teams like Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State. There are two sides to every coin.

Don't let some of the diehards see these stats ... They will find a way to slice 'em and dice 'em at the end still make you think Lick is the next coming of Coach K at Duke ...

And what's the point of that? That we can't be good teams? If anything, that highlights the struggles of the program.

Probably 1-2 other BCS teams if that. It is fair to see we are one of the worst BCS hoops teams in the country. I am frankly unsure how Barta can continue to publically support Lickliter.

i'm trying to figure out what people want barta to do here. i see three options:

1. fire lickliter right now, bring in someone else.

2. keep lickliter but stop publicly supporting him, as iahawk20 suggests.

3. keep lickliter but speak privately about a set of conditions that must be met next year to stay to year five.

#1 assumes that we have the money to buy him out (somewhere in the three million range), that we have the money to lure another coach, that there's another coach out there that has a more promising resume than lick did when he came in, and that we would be able to lure that coach with the promise of a still-unbuilt practice facility, an unproven roster (many of whom could transfer in a coaching change), and zero fan support. this theoretical coach would also have to be cool with the fact that we booted lick after three years and that he could get the same treatment.

i have no idea what #2 is supposed to accomplish other than cause even more turmoil in the basketball program and turn off potential recruits.

#3 makes lickliter accountable for substantial improvement next year without escalating this thing into a media circus. regardless of how you feel about lickliter and the roster he is assembling, i don't see a realistic alternative.

Just pointing out that right now our strength of schedule ranks #31 in the country...not exactly playing all cupcakes. We have not beaten those teams, but we have hung tough with the majority, despite being hamstrung with injuries/suspensions (Archie, Tucker). We are getting a lot of production out of freshman and sophomores....I believe we are on the right road

i have to agree ; this group of players have not come close to rolling over . Without having the necessary depth at some positions that other teams have ; it's a wonder we haven't been blown out more . Better days are ahead for this squad .

Some fans were pointing out how tough our non-conference slate was this year...in the latest bracket I saw...only UNI and Texas on our non-conference slate were making the Big Dance....just does not look like that tough of a non-conference slate now.

I know that lick does not like the UNI game...eliminate that one,and the non-conf tourny that has us up against a Texas...we could play all non-tourny teams..maybe win a few more, but who will care?

As of the current rankings, we have only played 4 teams in the top 25 (Texas, OSU, MSU, Purdue). We are 0-7 in those games.

In those games vs. ranked teams, we have an average margin of defeat of 16, so we are not hanging with ranked teams like a previous poster said.

I certainly don't think we've ever had a real shot at beating a ranked team...I was at the home game vs. tOSU and it was clear to me that tOSU was playing lethargic and when it came down to winning time they decided to go out and win and there was nothing we could have done to stop it from happening.

But to say that we haven't hung with any ranked teams at all...and then to use a cumulative stat...that's a little misleading. We have certainly been in games against tOSU and MSU. In addition...we hung with Texas for a half...but again I think that teams with that much talent can have a tendency to play down to our level for a little while and when they kick it into gear they leave us in the dust.

BTW Ghost...I didn't want to hate in the other forum...but you were right about the Musky Rod comment...not that funny.
