We’ve been in on several QBs that have committed elsewhere. Not entirely surprising considering we have a Sophomore penciled into start this year and just brought in Deuce Hogan in the 2020 class.

Once you break into the top 20 the margin of separation is very slim.
What I really like is that they really have a plan when it comes to recruiting. It's obvious that a couple of years ago they really put some thought into recruiting. The future looks very good.

Iowa might be in the best position during the KF Era of having a staff to identify talent and then develop it.
The only aspect I'm unsure of is the diamond in the rough prospects that Reese Morgan uncovered. But if Iowa lands most if its main targets, it should be less reliant on the diamonds in the rough.

That's kind of funny. Two "experts" on 247, who never made a pick for him either way, decide to lay it all on the line and predict Iowa an hour before he announces. Swami like.

Rob, I am finding it amazing that these kids are all committing here in April and May when they cannot visit and everything is shut down. I expected kids to be waiting and hoping to get back on campus this Summer as things start to open back up.
While I know Iowa is not a high pressure recruiting school, do you think Iowa is letting these young men know that the boat is filling up quickly and they need to board now or risk being left on shore?

Yeah I think the Rona thing has had an impact that's different then one would have expected. A part of me thinks that no Iowa doesn't put the pressure to commit on them. But the kids themselves can see the spots filling up. It's a game of musical chairs. Nobody wants to not get their preferred chair due to waiting too long. The stud highly prioritized kids know they'll have spots held for them. But the middle of the pack 3 star kids which the most of them all are I think are locking in their spots.

I have to believe that Iowa locking down their 2020 class very early last year helped the staff focus time and resources on this 2021 class, which has paid some dividends here.
Hopefully that carryovers to next year, however the scouting aspect is going to be tough with limited camps and exposure this summer. The good news there is it appears the state of Iowa has another good HS class in 2022 so plenty of guys in close proximity to lay the groundwork for the class. Hope the staff can keep it rolling!
If we don't sign a QB in this class, I'd like to see Cooper DeJean get a look at QB. I know the coaching staff has him penciled in at safety, but he put up some very impressive numbers at the QB position in leading his team to the state title last year.

It’s very easy to see when you watch his film that he’s not a college QB. That would be a waste of what appears to be a very good looking prospect. Luckily it doesn’t sound like that’s the plan.

I'm honestly not all that worried about not having a QB in this class. We've got 3 really talented QBs and frankly, with the transfer portal as accessible as it is, I don't know that it even makes sense anymore to carry more than 3 QBs.

Exactly. If you are bringing in a good QB every year you are likely going to have 2 transfers out of every 4. We have Petras as a RS So, Padilla RS Fr, and Hogan as a Fr (who will likely redshirt). Kind of easy to see why we aren’t landing anyone and why it’s not that big of a need right now.
