Iowa favorite to win division in 2011 and 2012

With Nebraska's brutal schedule these next two years,and Michigan still trying to find its legs, the time might be perfect for Iowa to be the "favorite" to make the B10 title game these next two years!

Don't see Northwestern or Minnesota making a push. MSU could be decent but I'll take my chances.

How cool would it be to play in the FIRST Big Ten Championship Game?!

While I see the potential there Iowa is going to have a ton of uncertainty next year. At least one new safety, a few defensive linemen, a linebacker, qb, couple wr's I don't think we should be getting the hotel room just yet.

If Rich Rod somehow saves his job it will likely mean Michigan will have a solid team. Iowa also has to play Penn State which despite recent history should still not be counted as an automatic W in addition to playing Nebraska.

But I do agree it does look promising with Nebraska likely having around 2 losses in conference.
 
We have a shot, but as the previous poster mentioned, we will be replacing a lot. The only position that is proven at this point that will return next year is RB. New QB, New WRs (I think McNutt goes pro), New DL (besides Binns/Daniels), New LBs, New safety (or 2?), etc.

Edit: New Punter and Kicker too. Donahue does not get enough credit for what he does.

Opening at Penn State will be tough on a new QB, but the kid was lights out in his first start at OSU w/ the Rose Bowl on the line. Ya never know what will happen, but I am so pumped about THIS year that I have a hard time breaking down 2011 much more than I just did. Let's win the Big Ten in 2010! GO HAWKS!!!

I've already talked about McNutt with you, and don't feel like posting my reasoning as to why I think he stays for everyone else's benefit. But technically, if Mossbrucker wins the kicking job this year, he will be back in 2011. If he can get his confidence back (it took a real hit when Ferentz went with Murray against Penn State for the game-winner), he could maybe become a Houghtlin-like kicker: not a huge leg, but money from inside 40.
 
Provides a great opportunity. Assuming this year is good, and if we could advance to Big 10 championship the first two years, we could really take a step-up nationally. But, we are getting pretty far ahead ourselves. I guess thats the joy of being a fan though.

As far as Neb schedule for the next two seasons... What a welcome to the Big ten Party! All the big ten's big boys were invited to dance with Neb. that is going to be very brutal. going to be very tough to win them all.

I see Michigan just getting better over the next two seasons, so i believe they will be in the mix for 11, and 12. i hope The Hawks can can continue forward, and keep their program where it is today.

Purdue is not in our Division. they are just a dumb cross over game they protected for us. WHY?

MSU might be the early on favorites to make some noise in the first two seasons.

I did mention MM leaving for the league in another thread, but never saw your response. And there is no doubt it took a hit when KF went Murray vs PSU. I was standing on the goal line in front of the student section when that kick went through and I headed straight for the tunnel to get the F out of the way. The first one up the tunnel, and the only one that did not celebrate with the team and the fans was Mossbrucker. As he walked by me, and it was basically just me, him and a security guard up the tunnel, I could tell he was ****** off. Obviously anyone with a competitive spirit would be disappointed, but you would think he could be a team guy. I don't know though. I have never been on that stage in that moment before.
 
If we didn't lose so much I think we would be favorites in 2011. The loss of six starters on the D including five up front concerns me. Plus we lose a lot of depth at WR. I would think however we would be considered a favorite in 2012. The schedule sets up pretty nice in 2012. Neutral sight game at Chicago with NIU. Four home games in a row with ISU, UNI, Central Michigan, and then the Big 10 opener with Minny. PSU, Purdue and Nebby at home. MSU, NW, Indiana, and UM on the road. That sets up incredibly well.

Oh alright, I got you. I just don't see him having a big enough year to make it worth it. Our receiving corps is pretty deep for one guy to just have a dominant year, even in a pass-happy scheme. And we are not a Fun and Gun team. This year's receiver class could be absolutely LOADED, with A.J. Green, Michael Floyd, Julio Jones, Ryan Broyles, Niles Paul, Terrance Tolliver, DJK, Devier Posey, and the kid from Pitt (I can't remember his name, but he's pretty good) all potentially going pro this year. McNutt would have to have a MONSTER year, AND test well at the combine in order to break into 1st/2nd round. And if he can't get into the 1st/2nd round, it's not worth going pro early unless you REALLY need the money (like Spievey did).

Fair enough. All great points. Believe me I am HOPING he is around in 2011 to catch the game-winning TD at Nebraska to send us to the first ever Big Ten Championship Game! What a way to go out, eh?! :)

That's a pretty big if.

They have two very loseable games right out of the chute, in UCONN and ND. If RichRod and the gang lose both of those, the Allied vans will be circling the campus like hungry vultures.
 
Jon also thought that Jake Christensen was gods gift to Iowa football for a long time too.

However, in Jon's defense ... Michigan won't be contending with earth-shattering personnel losses going into the 2011 season. Thus, they likely really will be pretty good in 2011.

Maybe not personnel losses, but they may be dealing with the loss of their coach. Just sayin'.

That's also why Jon said ... "if" Rich Rod doesn't lose his job, he'd then have Michigan as his favorite.

I agree ... I think that Michigan will stumble this year.

Furthermore, while I can definitely see the Michigan squad being irritatingly good in 2011 ... I do have difficulty seeing them be better than us. Despite losing many veteran starters ... Iowa will have A LOT of experienced backups ready to step up in 2011.

Michigan too will be contending with some losses on the D side of the ball. Furthermore, I still am of the opinion that Iowa's Mike Daniels is as good as Michigan's top D-lineman. Thus, considering that Iowa returns Daniels and Binns for the 2011 season ... I still have a hard time not being pretty confident with regard to our chances.
