Iowa fans are fed up with the pettiness of a former Hawkeye hooper

I jumped off the Franwagon starting with year 6. I always enjoyed listening to Fran talk basketball but it was obvious by then that he had reached full Peter Principle. Fortunately for him Barta continually rewarded him by giving him unearned contract extensions. He is a mid major coach who got lucky by landing a power conference job at a school that had an incompetent AD. He is where he belongs in more ways than one.
When it comes to Barta it's just sad. He was as terrible of an AD as it gets but he was lucky as any AD could ever be. Between the lawsuits and how he handled the athletic departments he shoulda been fired really early on. He got to hang on cause he was a fund raiser. And the football program was rolling along thanks to KF. He had the blessing of many big dollar donors and so long as he stayed out of KFs way which for the most part he did he had KFs blessing too and that's all that mattered.

The McCaffreys as a clan always seemed to think they were unfairly under attack by Iowa fans and what passes for Iowa media. Really? Unfair? Starting with the patriarch, who was paid millions of dollars to act like Jojo The Monkey Boy out on the court at times, and who could not back up that vitriol with even a mild amount of NCAA Tourney success. I loved Fran, but he was a living Meme at times. Then you layer in three boys that were all outstanding high school hoopsters in IC. The first two matriculate to Iowa to play for their dad. This was not long after Little Lick's era at Iowa. So.... You are going to draw scrutiny when you make that choice (ask the Ferentzes). Layer on to that you have Conner, who at times was a comedically bad shooter; Patrick whose physical and mental health struggles were well documents, as was his atrocious effort and defense; and then the last kid killed a guy and then spurned Iowa. The wife was allegedly kind of nutty as well.

Conner, your Dad was the second most recognizable guy in town and he had checkered success. He nonetheless had almost two decades on the job. He just could not do squat in the tourney. You are a coach. Scrutiny and ultimately getting canned are part of the gig. Grow up, dude.

Character Assassination Day on HN?

Really gotta love social media. Guy re-posted an Iowa State tweet saying "Still our state." And then took it down.

When looking at what the current president posts daily (among other people), this is about the tamest shit ever. Makes for a fun chuckle or two on this old message board, but really hard to see how anyone gets fired up about something like this.

If this is how he feels then it gets a big "whatever" from me. I believe his degree still says University of Iowa and the only reason why people even know who he is because he played forever here at Iowa for his dad. At least he isn't faking it, I do respect a guy who will share their true feelings instead of pretending to be something they are not. To put myself in his shoes I kind of get it, he wasn't raised to be a Hawkeye, he only was because his dad was the coach at Iowa. So to him this is probably an act of loyalty to his father, which I can at least respect.

Yep, that is what churches and are for.

Then why'd he delete it? That's the part Chris Hassel was calling him out on. He wasn't standing on it or the other tweets he put out and deleted. The guy is like 25 or older now he's not an immature kid he knows better.

Maybe Cait kicked him to the couch?

If my dad worked in a high pressure job for some company and did a better than average job for 90% of his career (I know, the % is debatable) and then one day he was unceremoniously fired, I might be a bit pissed at them too. But if all we're bitching about is the internet posting listed here, that's pretty tame. As far as I'm concerned, Connor was an excellent player for the Hawks. He didn't score a bunch, but others did because of his assists. He was an excellent student and also attempted to play baseball while here. If it were anyone besides Coach McCaffery's son, all of this would probably gone unnoticed.
