Iowa Fan Support

I gotta say watching on btn2go tonight, there were times the crowd was drowning out the announcers against lowly UNI

As a blue hair I appreciate that. The loudest game I can remember was the "Norm Parker" game vs Wisky in 2010. Could not hear anything after that game :). Hope to beat that noise level this Saturday!!!
Wasn't at that game, but saw it well enough on TV. One reason you probably couldn't hear anything after that game was probably because there was no noise, only eerie quiet.

I was at the 2014 Wiscy game. I had the pleasure of riding home with a bunch of delirious Badger fans who decided to stop at a bar in Kieler on the way home were we were greeted by about forty or fifty more delirious Badger fans who had watched the game at the bar and been drinking all day. I've told the story before; the rest the evening felt like a volleyball match with me as the volleyball.

Pray for my sanity this week. :) Im coming down with a group of fourteen badger fans. Sitting in the new North end zone.

Have to wonder already as you are traveling with all those Badgers . In 2010 I rode the train back with some Wisky fans and they were actually pretty gracious in victory. Course they were way outnumbered in a moving vehicle.

I've lived in Wisconsin for seventeen years. There are worse fan bases out there. But all the stories you have heard about their intake of adult beverages are true. Maybe it's because the legal age was once eighteen. Or because some laws should be tougher on those who have had too much to drink.

By the way, the fourteen badger fans include immediate family, in-laws, and other relatives. Any violations to my sanity will be remembered at Christmas.:p

I am not going to cheer because our fan base is delusional. We need to be more quiet until we get more wins. But, wait. Lots of posts say if we have a good year, its because our schedule is so weak. Now I just do not know what to do.

Went to the '15 game with my stepson and his friend. Badger fans were extremely friendly pregame. Midwestern polite after. Went again last year, again pretty polite and friendly. Note, did stay away from the bars, they looked crazy. By the way, we cheer because we love the Hawks, win or lose. Never booed a Hawk in my life, (except Ronnie Harmon).

Wisconsin residents are very similiar to Iowans on the surface. Strong work ethics, small town/rural roots, county fairs are still a big deal, gracious hosts, church potlucks, uniting on Friday Night for local high school sports, helping neighbor's in time of need, on and on.

I've lived in Wisconsin for seventeen years. Here's the difference. Wisconsin people, under the surface, have a slight petty streak in them, a little bit of holier than thou self righteousness. The kind of people who will lecture you not to act a certain way and then turn around and do it themselves. It has to start with elected officials, school board superintendents, village clerk's, etc. Secrets aren't kep't over here as much as they are in Iowa and having lived both states it's not a huge difference, but it's there.

Wisconsin and northern Illinois were originally planned to be essentially one state, as the original outlined state map for Wisconsin included Rockford and Chicago. Mississippi was added to the Union in 1817 and the North needed to add another state. They wanted to add Illinois, but because downstate Illinois was essentially indistinguishable from the future Confederate sympathizing state of Missourrah and was full of Kentucky and Tennessee rednecks, they needed to add some actual northerners.

Now at the time, Wisconsin was in favor of brother-sister marriage, whereas the folks in downstate Illinois were more traditional and wanted to draw the line at first cousins. Chicago and Rockford held advisory votes and based on the marriage laws at the time, decided they would rather go with southern Illinois than stay as part of Wisconsin. The downstate people have been rewarded for this decision with the most insolvent state government in the Union.

I booed Pierce every time he was announced pre-game. Alford benched the starters in Pierce's last game, so I didn't get the opportunity to boo him and I think he was arrested either that night or early the next day on those kidnapping charges. Harmon's fumble-itis came in his last game as a Hawk, so the opportunities to boo him were limited. He was an honorary captain at some game a few years ago, but I was in some unconscionable line to take a piss after drinking a dozen Coors Lights in the parking lot so I didn't get the opportunity to boo him.

I find it hard to pray for people who continually put themselves in bad sports. You should get counseling.

Just so we are clear... that was a joke and I love Newhart. Got to hand it to you...special person to go to this game with THOSE people.

Like I explained a few posts ago, it's immediate family and members from my wife's side.

It's unfortunate that they are going to be disappointed Saturday night.

I grew up a Miami Dolphins fan in a world of Packers and Vikings.

I listened to punk rock and indie rock when my friends listened to Van Halen, Motley Crue and Def Leppard (who I actually like as well)

I ran cross country, which is kind of a loner and outcast sport at the high school level.

I live in Wisconsin and don't like cheese or butter.

I'm used to taking shit for sticking to my guns.
