Iowa coordinator says Beathard can be his best QB ever

Would CJ have missed them? How would you know? CJ could have easily missed seeing them, just as he missed a bunch of wide open receivers last year? You also have to know what the QB's are being coached. And, yes it is putting all the blame on Rudock, because you're saying that all things being entirely equal, they would have won with CJ... To make a statement that we WOULD HAVE WON is totally preposterous...and just totally ignorant and unscientific. You could say, "it would have been interesting to see how CJ would have done in some of those games, might have been a different outcome..." We don't KNOW they could have won those games even if they had Aaron Rodgers at QB... Some you folks can never move on and ever admit you are WRONG... I would bet you were on the KF sux, run him out of town bandwagon....

I think you are exaggerating what was said. Also, you CAN say "all other things held equal, CJ as a starter might have given us more points than Rudock, which could have brought between 1 and 3 extra wins in 2014." That is, in fact, a big portion of statistical analyses used in scientific research.

CJ missed a lot of deep balls when he was injured last year. The year before he was money on the deep ball. Close games are about making plays. CJ is a playmaker. There is obviously no way to know for sure. Maybe he gets injured his first play anyway. Maybe he fumbles 3 times. But he increases our odds of wining those games (all things equal) by a lot.

The Hawknick personna was more likeable.

I said in another thread we don't even realize how good CJ is yet. Think of how accurate his deep ball was when he was healthy. Now that he has experience he has everything a great qb needs.

This year we might have the best qb Iowa has ever had, the best middle linebacker, and the best cornerback. We probably have the most explosive running back since Tavian Banks. All the pieces are in place except a great left tackle and a great rush D end. This year will either be like last year or be like 2010.

How could we have the best middle linebacker in Iowa history this year when Larry Station was a MLB? There is no way that he is as good as Larry Station. Not a slam, just reality.

I find it hilarious that there are still people that believe Rudock should have been starting over Beathard.
I don't think it's 100% clear cut. CJ has better physical talent, but that's only part of the equation. Maybe CJ made huge strides in the off-season after he was named the starter.

Jake is Ghost-Hawknick-Clinton-Icke?

It all makes sense now.
I've never been on this board before until recently, so I don't know who these other 'people' are, but they must be pretty sharp if you're comparing them to me :) Glad I could 'liven' up the board a little......

I would assert that it was your original statement that was a gross exaggeration. And what statistical data are we going to use for this analysis, Bill Nye? It didn't happen (except maybe in a parallel universe) so there are no statistics to analyse Skippy. You said something really stupid, forgive yourself and move on....

Who ever develops the best, practices the best, and performs the best, really "need to be the 3 main guys..." Do you know something we or the coaches don't?
Iowa typically doesn't have more then 3 WRs put up any significant stats during a season. Just going off of last yr and what little spring ball there's been I feel those will be the 3 main ones. Here's what Iowas WRs did last year.
Vandeberg 65 catches 700 yrds 4 tds
T Smith 32 catches 563 yrds 3 tds
Hillyer 16 catches 212 yrds 0 tds
J Smith 6 catches 141 yrds 0 tds
McCarron 5 catches 56 yards 1 td
HCC had 35 catches 3 more then T Smith and Kittle had 20... So two TEs had more catches then our 3rd highest WR...
So I don't expect McCarron to make a huge leap in production when Scheel and J Smith are there healthy. If another name leaps up the depth chart I'll be surprised (Be it Boyle Ogwu or anyone else) Iowa just doesn't typically get a ton of production from multiple players. It's usually 2-3 guys and the others just give them a blow on running downs...

MAYBE in a parallel universe? No doubt it happened in a parallel universe. No way Kirk was dumb enough to start Rudock in every single universe.

C.J. has to improve things in order to be the best ever but it's nice having a qb who has leadership skills.

I guess I am on the other the end of this I am not losing sleep over CJB's deep ball. I am not a quarterback guru, but I can assume with a groin injury, throwing the football deep with your lower body is very difficult. Imo, it is the short and intermediate passes that need to be cleaned up. B1G title game is a perfect example, that throw to Kittle should have been six. A) Bullough hit was illegal....B) Kittle still should have caught it.......however that throw was 90 mph and it was behind him. If CJB leads him where Kittle can protect himself that's probably six. His touch became erratic as the season progressed.

I can't wait to see CJ play after a full year at the helm. If he played that good hurt like he was I am pumped to see what he can do healthy. I'm not worried about the receiving corps. They'll come along just fine. ( fingers are crossed )
