Iowa City West 4-Star WR Oliver Martin Updates Recruitment

Based on the articles/posts I've read, I think his having his family very close may be the difference for the Hawks. In addition to being close to home, I think the Iowa football culture and Kirk's personality and tenure will play positively with Martin as well as an opportunity to make an impact fairly early at a position that Iowa seems to need help at very soon.

Hope he's a good blocker!!!

Have any of the current true FR or RSFR seen more than a handful of snaps for Iowa this year?

Yes but it would probably be easier and faster if he went to Iowa.

I have to disagree here. Its very difficult for a true freshman to WR to play at Iowa, regardless of their talent level. I've heard its a very difficult position to learn in Iowa's offense (although defenses seem to learn it pretty easily during their prep week for Iowa) and you have to be a solid blocker.

Running wind sprints for an entire game and have one ball thrown to you (skips at your feet) cannot be easy especially as a freshman....

That's true but I'm just saying there are more blue chip receivers at Michigan than Iowa.

He's going to Michigan. Has a very close relationship with Harbaugh and incoming 5-star QB McCaffrey kid. The exceptionally poor line play, on both sides of the ball, is going to magnify recruiting misses on Dykstra and Daniels and possibly Nelson, much much more than missing out on Martin. Higher quality receivers matter little if you cannot provide legitimate pass protection or stop the run to allow the offense back on the field. We need legit bodies in the trenches, something Iowa has lacked truthfully since the NORM Parker era.

I think you're going to be disappointed.

He can look at it one of two ways: 1 - Iowa's scheme doesn't use talented WR's to the fullest and won't let them play until they are great blockers in the run game. 2 - Iowa needs more playmakers at WR which I fit very well so they would utilize me if I went there.

Yeah, I am beginning to lean towards him signing with Michigan. I thought ND, MSU and Oregon would all be tough to beat but they have struggled just like Iowa has this year so I think we win the battle of those based on us being the hometown favorite.

I would love to see a Martin/Corrales duo cause I like the Corrales kid the more film I watch of him. Big, strong and athletic. Just look at the pic on his dad's (Greg) twitter feed of Beau hurdling an opponent. Pretty impressive.

That is assuming a lot.

thats how we roll here

Damnfinn, thank you for weighing in. I'm curious on your comments since you've decided to preliminarily comment about my post. Beyond the crystal ball, which is garbage, premium content from those who are closer to the Iowa program says Iowa is likely running third for Martin's services. They were talking about Calloway decomitting a month before he started taking visits elsewhere. What's your thoughts on the matter?

how would I know were he's going? How would anybody know were he's going at this point? I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know yet. You came out at said he's going to Michigan. Did he say that? Did he give any kind of indication he was going to commit to Michigan? No, he did not.
For what its worth, I would place a small wager on him committing to Iowa. But I assume nothing, thats just my opinion.
