They will need to shore up things on the defensive end. Defense seems to be a theme right now in Iowa sports.

Overall great to be 2-0.. :) The refs certainly skewed this a bit.

It was a fun 1st half to watch it woulda been good for them to press on the 2nd half to keep it up but yeah a wins a win

I'm disappointed in the second half but we won and that's great. Plenty of stuff to use to teach with I'm sure.

Gatens seemed to find his stroke this game. He looked very good, so did May.

To many turnovers, and we had a hard time breaking their press in the second half. We are missing that second ball handler....bad.

A lot of teaching moments in the 2nd half.

Overall, Matt and Eric looked phenomenal in the game. Good to see. Cartwright still off, needs to understand he isn't a jump shooter.

If you can make it out...

He's just not a 3 point shooter and never going to be. We have plenty that are though. Penetrate and dish.

The easy non-con will help. There will be plenty of opportunity to teach and also get guys reps at what they do well.

Still think the team will suffer because of the lack of defensive speed on the perimeter, but if they play within themselves, they can do well.

Funny, if you think about it. This team could probably play Lick ball pretty well.

At about the 11 minute mark you could see the team take its foot off the gas and all of the sudden A&T started playing with more intensity. I am glad this happened against A&T instead of against Creighton. Hopefully they will learn that they have to play all 40 minutes.

Turnovers didn't help things any. Allowed them to score easy baskets. Fran is miffed a bit about it in the brief post game....

Continuity was really a problem the whole game, especially the second half when there seemed to be a foul every possession. Refs made it a more awkward game than it was.

We really started to struggle when Gatens was the only starter in the second half. Have to work the different combinations to gain experience. This was a very good second game, not as easy as the score looked. Identified a weakness or two in our game. We must work on getting the ball in bounds quicker and more efficiently. There were times in the first half that we seemed confused Throwing the ball in, not even certain who should be doing it. The second half was much worse, and when we finally got the ball inbounds, their trap caused a few turnovers. Seemed to be the most glaring weakness to me.

This was a somewhat difficult team to play. They were quick, athletic, and just good enough to make the game a tough one for us. Reserves didn't get a chance to do much against this team. That will certainly change as we go on. Northern Illinois Thursday Night. Purdue beat them by 62 points. We should prevail. Creighton awaits....

Matt and May did look very good tonight, Stormin, their experience showed. Really good to see Eric get things going. If he plays like this the rest of the season, we will do alright. I am starting to get a little concerned about Creighton.....

:)

They definately lacked intensity in the 2nd half and that just can't happen. Good excuse for Fran to ride their a$$ in practice. As some have mentioned it looked like a pick up game. It doesn't matter what the score is you put this team away, beat the press and score.

Northern lost by 2 tonite at Wis-Mil. I noticed the Kaylon Williams is back on the court for Wis-mil. Also noticed former Iowa recruit, who was highly touted,Abdel Nadar is starting for Northern Ill. and leading them in scoring. He would have been a nice player for Iowa. Still cannot figure out his story...he was being pursued by some big time schools, then is going to play prep school another year, then at the last minute goes to Northern Ill....weird.

I agree that Iowa still has the same basic problem as last year...lack of perimeter quickness. Hubbard would have helped, along with Washpun or Cezar,Pierre Jackson,ect....Oglesby,White and Gabe did not address that problem.
But, hopefully our senior savvy will allow us to overcome. Not good news on Brommers knee...Fran seemed concerned. Sounds like it could be chronic.

That, and take better care of the ball. I saw a LOT of bad passes last night when trying to run off of a defensive rebound. Forcing it a little bit too much.. Just need to make better decisions. The good news is that I think these things are correctable.

My bigger concerns are still if the team can consistently hit shots from the outside, and where the points in the paint will come from other than Basabe.

But yes, 2-0 is 2-0 even if it's against weak competition.. Sure beats the past 2 years. :D
