Iowa basketball look ahead: Josh Oglesby

I forget which game it was, but when JO had that game where he was automatic running a baseline screen and curl to the elbow in front of the Iowa bench, making 8 or 10 (or something crazy like that, off the same play), I told myself that is what JO should be. Our designated streak shooter. It was like 15 foot layups for him. He showed progression last season, just not consistancy. If he can show consistancy, as the 6th man, then we will be tough to beat. JOK will be and needs to be the starter, in my opinion.

He has done it a few times, the first might have been at Indiana his freshman year when he made 7 of 9 including 5 threes. He is a threat to go off any time. I think he needs to shoot if he is open as soon as he gets the ball. This might be his year. Jaryd Cole, Matt Gatens and Eric May had excellent senior seasons. It is Josh's turn.....

He needs to shoot without a conscience.....

The main senior for this year is obviously White. But I'd like to see JO be an offensive spark off the bench. There are games, like you mention, when he can carry the team to a W. This especially might be true if he isn't the only dangerous 3pt threat on the floor for Iowa and so isn't guarded too heavily.

You are correct, Uncle, Aaron gets lost in the conversations a lot of the time, but he is essential, and I think if he plays the 4 position, with room to operate, he will be as dangerous as anyone on the team. He wasn't quite himself last season, which I am glad is over. I really can't wait to see the new recruits play in the PTL. I am going with my son this year, camping in a tent outside IC.....

Hey Jack, you need to jump over to HR quick. Herby is over there looking for someone to give him updates and per game star ratings from PTL... :)

I'd like to think White could.... I just have a feeling he's peaked. Hope I'm wrong. I don't see his shot changing much or his confidence enough in it to take it more. I think he'll have some monster games. Don't get me wrong. But I think he'll have some 8-10 pt games like he's had and Marble had this yr that will frustrate us. I doubt he'll take the leap to where he's averaging 16, 17 plus like many of us think he should. I think this team will need him to average 17 plus to have a good year. His biggest asset is getting to the line. I want to see that gangly guy going to the basket every time. In the open court or half court. That's what he's good at and trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and make him a spot up shooter when he really hasn't improved alot at it the previous 3 years is asking alot.

I would appreciate it if you would take care of it for me, Frank, thank you very kindly.....

I would be particularly interested in his analysis of Gabe's PTL anticipated stats.....

White is likely to be THE senior on the 2014 squad. But he's not going to become a different player. I think he'll blossom as a rebounder at PF. Plus, his shot and post game will improve a little, just because of his work ethic. Those combined changes and RDM's departure will be enough to get him to 15 and 8 I'm guessing. If he improved a lot in one of those areas he could get to 17 per but that's unlikely.

My hope for JO is as a Jeff Moe-like spark off the bench that can occasionally carry a game.

One senior who has sort of fallen by the wayside in expectations is Olaseni. The skill he has that can't be denied is offensive rebounding. Gabe is truly elite in this area and he's a pretty good shot-blocker too. I think Woody's performance in the Tennessee game put the GO speculation on hold, but if he improves as much as he did last year in other areas, who knows. I'd love to see the lad from London make a big splash his senior year.

Hard to believe that he, Gabe and White are seniors already. Hope they all have a great season.

Hopefully White can step it up, he has to. Hopefully no more performances like the NW game in the BTT where White attempted 2 shots, that CANNOT happen.
