Iowa basketball look ahead: Josh Oglesby

Good article about Josh. For some reason I had forgotten about him not playing most of the pre-conference.
He shot very well for over half of the Big season, hitting almost 50% of his threes for a period of time, before the downfall.....

I just have a feeling he will be at least as good next season as the article says. It doesn't mention his ball handling and passing skills. He is surehanded and very court savvy.....

He only had 10 turnovers in 409 minutes on the floor. He had 27 assists which is average or a little below for a shooting guard, but he led the team in fewest TOs.....

He is a solid dependable player and his experience will help....

Josh did shoot the ball well last year, and knows where he is supposed to be on defense.

But, I do think the Hawks will be better if he comes off the bench. We need scoring off the bench.
Putting him with Trey could work out well, as Dickerson is a penetrator who can drive and kick.

Again, starting is not a big deal with this coach....if you are good enough, you will get minutes.
Oglesby is a proven shooter from the arc, but off the dribble he does little, so he is a bit one-dimensional.
We need shooters, tho, so he will be an important guy next year.

He just might be better coming off the bench, less pressure for him to immediately score, and he should be more relaxed off the bench. He will still get the same minutes, I would imagine....

It would be difficult to have Josh starting and improve on our deficiencies last year: defensive quickness and off-the-dribble penetration. However, as an experienced senior, it may be tough to keep him off the floor.
I could see a possibility of: Woody, White, Jok, JO, Gesell starting. That would improve defensive quickness and, if Jok takes the next step, give a potent offense with GO, JU, and TD off the bench for a solid 8-man rotation. A lot of predictions for the line-up next year depend on who emerges, and who doesn't in relation to our needs going forward.

I'm pressing a imaginary like button for this thread!

I think things will be very good, Atomic, I am anxious to see Brady nailing threes off the bench and Dom sliding to the basket while they are guarding the perimeter. It can be done and what a pleasure it would be to pay some teams back. Next year I believe we will find a way to hold a lead until the final whistle.....

Hopeful Homerism to the gills

This team has about 8 players one could call starters. No one is over the moon good, but there are no hounds in this pack either!

JO could be an absolutely amazing 6th man. The type that occasionally goes off and leads the team in scoring.

Fran has been talking up Jok, but that doesn't mean Oglesby won't start. I think he has earned a starting position, but that doesn't mean Jok isn't good enough to beat him out. If Oglesby gets beaten out, then Jok is a pretty good player.

Agree

So, starting lineup of :

Mike, Josh, Jarrod, Aaron and Woody....all Iowa boys cept for Aaron but he can pass for local.

2nd team:

Dickerson, Clemmons, Peter, Uhl, Gabe

3rd team:

Ellingson.

Who says segregation is dead?

We can sneak up on them, maybe?

Could not agree more. And when it comes to getting mins if you have the hot hand he'll keep you in. I think Fran loves Josh he seems to really want him to succeed. And I think he's more effective in short bursts of mins against the other teams 2nd string that are more apt to not be as good in transition defense where he can be the most effective spotting up

Its to bad Oglesby broke his foot and missed part of the season last year. He probably couldn't really show what his full capability was last year. He was pretty good offensively, but it had to effect his movement on the court when he came back. Hopefully, he and the other seniors remain injury free this yea r. I doubt any of them are going to be pushed around during the season. I doubt any of the juniors will be pushed around this season either. Iowa is going to have a pretty experienced team.

That is how I see it, Billso.....

I forget which game it was, but when JO had that game where he was automatic running a baseline screen and curl to the elbow in front of the Iowa bench, making 8 or 10 (or something crazy like that, off the same play), I told myself that is what JO should be. Our designated streak shooter. It was like 15 foot layups for him. He showed progression last season, just not consistancy. If he can show consistancy, as the 6th man, then we will be tough to beat. JOK will be and needs to be the starter, in my opinion.
