Iowa B-Ball Exhibition Game Thread

There's a nice stepback from Uthoff, not going to judge him or Jok based on their first game, both of those guys will have several games to get ready before the Battle for Atlantis

It'll be that way for awhile. But if they stay consistent, the flow will improve a lot.

Hopefully when we get to B1G referees they are consistent from one half to another. In years past they have been so up and down with their calls. I could name a few in particular but I'll refrain because I am sure everyone can guess who I am referring too.

Fran is very unimpressed with his team on both ends pretty much. Specifically called out poor execution on offense.

yeah, like that MSU game in the BTT where they just started letting things go with 2 minutes left. ugh.

Surprised at how little run Basabe got tonight. I wonder if that's a sign of things to come regarding his role this year.

Iowa needs to recruit some kids that can guard on the perimeter. This years edition of the Hawks had better play zone 80% of the time to prevent all of that dribble penetration. We are long but slow.

They shot 28% from 3 pt range. I don't think we need to panic just yet.

The other team was tiny so they are going to be able to go around much taller guys to a certain extend but they weren't able to do anything when they got in the lane because they were tiny.

And there really wasn't much dribble penetration anyway. I don't know what Macausland was talking about and judging from the look on Frans face when Mac asked him that question Fran didn't know what he was talking about either.

Iowa already recruited guys who can guard the perimeter very well as was clearly displayed last season.

I got to make the trip down, I was surprised at how physical Augustana played against Iowa. Which made for a good exhibition as it simulated a Big Ten game on a smaller scale, I was surprised at how strong they were. That said, Woodbury, Olaseni, and Basabe were up for the challenge and overall I like how they played. The concerns I came away with was the perimeter shooting and defense, Augustana had this little guard that had no problems blowing by our defenders and if we are going to struggle against a D3 point guard the Big Ten ones are going to give us fits. I will give the perimeter shooting a pass since they could have just had first game jitters but 2-18 (or whatever it ended up) was horrible, especially considering they were getting wide open looks. If Iowa is going to play up to their expectations this year they have got to hit those perimeter shots or Iowa is going to struggle against zone defenses, other teams will bottle up the inside and take away dribble drives by White and Marble.

On an encouraging note, it was nice to see them hitting free throws especially guys like Woodbury and Olaseni who can draw a lot of fouls.
