Iowa Announces Deontae Craig Signing

8 D-lineman! Which one ends up on offense. Logan Jones or Craig?

I would say definitely not Craig, he is the sort of twitchy athlete you need on the edge. I was thinking perhaps Yayah Black, but Kelvin Bell disagrees:

I think Isaiah Bruce is definitely DL (I would guess DT).

I think Jones would be a hell of a DT, but then again, so would Lindebaum. The 2 seem to have so much in common, makes you wonder if Iowa sees him traveling the same path.

I think Hurkett will be a DE (listed at LB by 247).

I think Van Ness will probably be OT, maybe DT.

Lois' availability is still up in the air.

So I have that s 6 DL (7 if you count Lois). I would guess 4-5 end up on the DL, with one or two switching to OL.

I have no issue with bringing in 6 defensive linemen. For one thing we’ve wanted to rotate guys there the last few years to keep everyone fresh. You’re going to have natural attrition and/or guys that don’t pan out. I have big expectations for Craig, Jones, and Bruce, and Black is pretty interesting as a prospect, after that if anyone produces out of this group it’s just gravy.

With how we play defense the more depth we can have the better, all you have to do is go back to 2010 and see the impact towards the end of some of those games when guys were getting tired. Even the NFL nowadays rotates guys all the time on the D line to keep guys fresh and give different looks. From what I am seeing from some of these guys which is exciting is they aren't locked into just an inside or an outside guy they have flexibility and have some good athleticism. Interchanging these guys all along the line will be a big strength.

Excited about all of them. Hopeful that Jones thrives/enjoys Iowa right away and we can really start working that pipeline... next target Thomas Fidone. Would be another great get, but I see 247 shows a Nebraska lean.

I loved this tweet about Black:

I wonder if he ends up inside or outside. I guess he could be more of a run stopping DE. Our pipeline at DT with Logan Lee, Logan Jones, Bruce, and Griffin Liddle (2021) seems pretty strong.

Didn’t one of these DL guys rush for a 1000 yds. at 265 lbs.? Was it Yahya Black? If so, play him at FB and give him the ball in short yardage situations. He can still play defense, but scare the gajeebers outta of the opposing defenses once in awhile with a bulldozer coming at them ala Refridgerator Perry. Especially down at the goal line. You either give it to him or use him as a decoy. Can you imagine him trying to hurdle the line? That would be insane? Can you imagine the holes this guy could open for Goodson? How do you stop a runaway train? It would be a look that other teams would have to prep for.

That was Isaiah Bruce.
I knew I read somewhere it was one of the DL. Same opinion, line him up in the backfield every now and then. Give the opposition something to worry about. Thx for the clarification Rob. Next time you see BF, put a bug in his ear. It would be interesting to hear his reaction, maybe even get the ball rolling. You never know!
