Even though Iowa joined the Big 10 in 1899, there was a period from 1907 - 1910 that Iowa held dual membership with the Big 10 and the Missouri Valley Conference. This MVC was the beginning of the Big 8 (Big 12). Now 100 years later we're back together in the same conference. It's VERY good that Iowa did not stay with the old MVC.

ya i saw that on wikipedia last week when it looked like the B12 was done and i got a yearning to look up its history

apparently both the B12 and the MVC claim that conference as their origin

and it was in the final four!!! That is about the only Drake smack talk I have when 3/4 of your coworkers are UNC grads

lol-- well atleast it's something

you almost had a lot to talk about a couple years ago- to this day i believe that had they won that 1st round game they coulda done what Butler did last season, or atleast close to what Butler did

thanks for reminding me, at least by the end of that season if I typed Drake Basketball into google, it quit asking me if I wanted Duke Basketball - talk about a kick in the gonads when you live out here.

The win over Nebraska in 1899 was huge in winning the western conference championship, and an undefeated season. The game also featured one of the goal line greatest defensive stands in Iowa history.
