Iowa and Iowa State Offense a Drastic Contrast In Styles

Actually, I'd put Ok State as well. I watched the IA State game and they actually looked pretty good on offense. What really stuck out to me is the different philosophy on passing than what Iowa does.
I'm not writing this to knock what Iowa does or criticize but merely to point out the main difference I saw. It seemed both IA State and OK State passed deep routes every 3rd play or so. When I'm talking a deep route, I'll say 20 yrds or father.

It actually was kind of exciting to watch, at least it kept my attention. It seriously seemed like they were constantly passing downfield. What this did is kept the d-backs at bay and kept them from cheating up. This opened up the running game for Lanning and the RB's. So, even though some of the throws didn't connect, it still helped the running game tremendously.

Anybody else watch this game?

I would like to see more than 1 super-deep route per game. I know we don't get separation but I want our rivals to think about us possibly stretching the field.

Baylor and Kansas State are the only Big 12 teams in the top 25 in total defense. The Big Ten has 3 in the top 11 with Nebraska and us just outside the top 25. Pretty hard to compare in my opinion

too funny. Caught quite a bit of their last 2 games (nearly pulled off 2 big upsets), and thought the same thing. Their offense looks light-years ahead of ours, more 'modern'. Feel like they have more 'playmakers' at WR for sure. Lazard got lit-up on the lateral w 0:02 left though. Wonder how he is doing, injury-wise. Hard to believe we smoked them like we did. I actually think their future might be brighter than it has been.

Was that the first non-Iowa game you've seen in a LONG time? Nobody plays like Iowa! You didn't see Clemson Louisville ? You'd think there are different rules. No fullbacks except goalline? Speed demons instead of blockers out wide? Chaos!! End of the world!!

Helluva lot of fun!

Well, there are a few still but few and far between. I think Alabama is more like Iowa but with more playmakers. Michigan State, Wisconsin.

My point was that even Iowa State would throw deep or get people open over 20 yrds. I think it's more Iowa's scheme than lack of WR talent. I mean they have to have a few on the roster that can get separation more consistently. They are DIV I for goodness sake. I think it's more the scheme/route and unwillingness to take shots.

Sometimes you call plays to set up other plays. Sometimes I think Ferentz wants to be perfect on every play and the team plays tight.

In games where Iowa gets near perfect execution and near perfect officiating - we're guaranteed a win.

Problem is we can only control one of those things. And it's asking a lot of 18-22yr olds to go out and not make a mistake. That's why I'm a broken record on dial back the field-position game and dial up the pinball scoring. I have faith these kids can do better than a scoring offense of 76th IN THE NATION. KF, you have to own that. I'm not putting that on a team with CJB/Kittle/Daniels/Wadley/Kulick/Scheel/Mitchell/etc. Those kids can do better than 76th with better schemes and game management.

I've said a few times for someone to tell KF that the college game doesn't have to be perfect. Go out & play ball boys.
