Iowa against UM blitz packages

Is anyone else concerned about how Iowa will handle blitz packages that UM will throw at us. We did not handle very well against Arizona and UM will bring different people from different looks. We must improve on picking up the blitz this week for sure.

Throw over the top, someone is bound to be open. Kirk even mentioned that after the Arizona game; that if Rick had had just one more second there was a long completion open down the field.

It wasn't the blitz packages by Arizona that got Iowa as much as the personnel packages. Iowa didn't have an answer for the speed and experience that Arizona put on the interior ... and, even then, Iowa's pass-pro got "exposed" the most late in the 4th quarter.

What folks forget about the other 3 quarters of the game is that the Iowa OL did a pretty decent job against a pretty darn good Arizona DL.

I am very worried about about picking up the blitz. I am convinced that we are going to see a lot of blitzing LBs with their CBs jumping routes on those blitzes because they know that Stanzi is not going to have enough time to wait for WRs to run any double-move routes.

Yea, if Rick and the OL are able to identify the blitz before the snap or even pick it up just a little, they will be able to throw over the top to the TE/WR for big gains. UM's defense is shaky and they will be exposed by Stanzi if they blitz. With 2 weeks of film time, I would bet that Stanzi has a pretty good idea when to expect a blitz.

UM's defense will need to blitz to cover their weaknesses in the secondary and speed up Stanzi's reads, I like our chances after the experience at Ariz and with our TE and WRs.

Their blitz packages may be of some concern, however I would look for us to counter them with a lot of quick passes to the tight ends. Just get the ball out early. And I like the odds with either Reisner or Herman connecting on quick look in routes for 10 - 12 yds apiece. Its a good way to move the ball and secondarily slow up blitz packages.

Also remember that RichRod's team has been decimated by departures to their secondary. It could well be the worst one we face all year. As such, I foresee a big day for Reisner as well as DJK and McNutt. I hope Davis can get going as well.

i'm going to say we let the offensive line handle their business. they have a few more games experience and i'm sure learned a lot from the arizona game. they will do fine. michigan will get slapped in the face for blitzing and let off it before too long

AZ also had the luxury of being up during the game, so they could take more chances by blitzing. UM won't (hopefully) have that same luxury, and will need to be a little more careful lest they get burned by our receivers.

Let's hope we use Reisner this year Moeaki was a big factor in last years game and TE can be a quick route to get the football in a hurry in the middle of the field.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a jailbreak screen and/or a reverse go for a big gain against Michigan's defense. They will likely throw a lot of blitzes at us, but some shotgun formation quick hitters early in the game could change their strategy...especailly if our receivers can get some significant yards after the catch.

Um.....Have you seen Michigans defense? The only people you have to worry about are Craig Roh when he puts his hand down and Mike Martin. ANyone else who blitzes will likely mess it up and leave an easy read.

If they blitz, it'll leave an already-embarrassing defensive secondary one man short. Frankly, I hope they blitz all night and we're able to pick apart the secondary.

Well, I am sure they will blitz and we will see I think with our Qb and receiver corp should be a good result for Hawks.

I agree. I believe that fatigue was a very real factor at the end of the game.

I have said all week that I think Iowa's ability to account for the blitz is the key to this game. As long as Iowa can take care of the Blitz, I don't think UM can keep up.

Well either fatigue or not we struggled for sure so lets hope we have improved because we are going too see some of the same type of blitzes this Saturday.

Ummm....we don't have any blitz packages...but we do play a lot of 3-man fronts on obvious passing downs. Tell Stanzi to enjoy the time he'll have to find guys downfield.

Did you watch the game last week Deace? There was plenty of blitzing going on there. Prior to that there hadn't been much. Also, I don't think you will see much of the three man front. I think Roh will have his hand on the ground a lot this game and Herron will be in his linebacker spot. Roh of the edge and Martin up the middle are the closest thing we have to a pass rush so we need to utilize them.
