Iowa Adds OL from Portal

If the kid that visited from Stanford the other day comes and they somehow magically land the TeSlaa kid and get a new OC all of a sudden we'd be cooking with bacon. But I rarely get what I ask for Christmas.

...and a Yahya Black switch to OL? Not even sure if he is up for such a switch, but the DL is deep and loaded after Evans's and Shannon's returns and the IWCC pickups (Thompson and Filer).

The injection of 3 talented upperclassmen, in addition to the usual incoming freshmen, certainly can't hurt the OL performance. We should keep our fingers cross and hope there is someone around who can coach them up if they all join that unit.

The scuttlebutt on TeSlaa seems to be he is going elsewhere, but we can always hope.

Well, Damn. I thought you had an inside scoop!

Yikes...that's 10 games in?

Yes, I said this last season. Petras wasn't great but the line was abysmal and the fact that Petras had such a good attitude in such a dire situation makes him one of my favorite Hawkeyes ever. It took a lot to keep the wheels on that thing.

The abysmal OL play is what surprises me the most w/ Cade choosing to transfer to Iowa. The play calling was head scratching at times however there’s not a pocket passing (non-mobile) QB in the country that could’ve made Iowa’s offense much better last year. The additions from the portal are super intriguing but will only be successful if the OL has figured out how to block.

Yep, if we have an OL you can book your tickets to Indy right now. If we don't have an OL, Duke's Mayo Bowl will be the ceiling.

The last two seasons were a combination of bad factors all hitting at once. Recruiting misses, early graduation of the good OLs, no depth, and a QB who had ZERO ability to scramble and even less pocket presence.

The Ferentz boys did not forget how to coach OL the last two years. They know more than anyone that the OL sucked and needs to get fixed ASAP. Experience returning, influx of two good transfers, should get things moving in the right direction. A playmaking QB will also be a big help to the OL and the playcalling.
