Iowa 8th in pre season rankings in Austin

Pretty uninformed article.

"Lost most of our offense"....huh??....OL yes....the rest of the offense is back including two who were injured...Hampton and Chaney.

"Eeked out wins versus Indiana, PSU and Wisky"....huh??...We dominated each of those teams in the 4th quarter and won going away.

Four returning offensive starters...huh??...how did you count that? I count Stanzi, McNutt, DJK, Reiff, Vandervelde, Wegher, Robinson and Reisner.

He doesn't even mention the kicking game.

This know-nothing writer is exactly why we need a playoff system...too much power given to writers who don't do their homework and don't know a damm thing about other programs, yet vote for poll placing week in and week out.

Bogus.

For a guy who lives and breathes UT and the Big XII, Bohls is actually pretty good. Unlike most sportswriters here in Texas and the south he actually gives credit to the Big Ten and the quality of the teams. Go back and look at the rankings he had Iowa at last year during the season and you will see he gave the Hawks more respect than a lot of writers did. Yeah, I wouldn't say we eeked out wins in some of the games we played but he is still better than most.

Sheesh. Can't believe I just defended Bohls. He's miles better than the other main writer at the AAS though.

Hard to disagree with this.

I thought the writer did a pretty good job. Regarding the 4 returning starters, it should've been at least 5:

QB - Stanzi (returning starter)
RB - Robinson/Wegher/Hampton (retunring starter)
FB - Morse (returning starter)
WR - Stross (graduated) (I believe Stross was ahead of DJK on paper)
WR - McNutt (returning starter)
TE - Moeaki (graduated)
RT - Calloway (graduated)
RG - Vandervelde/Reiff (returning starter)
C - Eubanks (graduated)
LG - Richardson (graduated)
LT - Bulaga (graduated)

So that's at least 5 returning starters. Basically, we have 8 positions on offense returning that have significant experience. It's the 3 OL positions that are the big question marks on offense.

Regarding the eeked out wins, the games he mentioned were in doubt for most of the game. The Indiana game's score looked worse than it was, the PSU and Wisconsin game scores looked closer than it was. Arkansas State's score made it look closer than it was too. All of those games were fairly close, however. The real close wins were UNI, Michigan and MSU.

Not a bad job for a writer in Big XII country. And I think the rank of Iowa is reasonable.

Yes, when you ONLY look at the final score. PSU and Wisky were not close down the stretch.

The Penn State game was an 8 point game until Iowa kicked a FG with 13 seconds left to make it 11 points so I would say that was pretty damn close down the stretch. I can see Wisconsin as Iowa kicked the FG with 5 minutes left in the game to go up by 2 scores.

That field goal should have been a TD, Stanzi pulled the ball down on the boot leg and ran out of bounds.
