Iowa 6th best coaching staff in the nation

I agree, but to deny there's a decent chance it all goes to hell (or at least goes slightly downhill) with the next hire is crazy. Overall, KF has overachieved and gotten as much out of his recruits as one could possibly expect. I hope the next man in can do the same.

Can you see him leaving? Every year there is talk of him bolting to the NFL, but I call bs. He has it good there. I would think it would take years in a row of failure for him to consider it.

I don't know that it's absolute B.S. It *could* happen. It happened to our basketball program and happened to Michigan's football program with Rodriguez. Whoever replaces KF will have some huge shoes to fill and needs to be prepared to hit the ground running to keep things rolling.

Not sure what this has to do with KF and whether Iowa sinks or swims after he leaves.

I don't think that's a decent comparison; Rodriguez came in and tried to teach Michigan a whole new language, installing a new offense and whatnot. They didn't learn from the mistakes Nebraska made when they hired Callahan and he flamed out. Whomever replaces Ferentz will likely come from the current staff (or the staff at the time), and will have the same philosophies that Ferentz has.

I don't see him leaving to coach somewhere else, but at some point -- whether it's in two years or twenty -- he's not going to be coaching the Hawkeyes.

I understand that.

Rivals.com College Football - Preseason unit rankings: Coaching staffs

Found this funny.

6. IOWA
BUZZ: Kirk Ferentz doesn't get enough credit for what he has accomplished at Iowa. At least half the Big Ten has better facilities and probably nine league members have a better recruiting base, but Ferentz and the Hawkeyes keep winning. Norm Parker is an excellent defensive coordinator, and offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe has been with Ferentz a long time.

Ferentz and staff are good at creating good teams from so-so talent.
Ferentz's players play as a team - are browbeaten into playing as a team. That's what well coached means.
Ferentz and staff are not good at using players' athletic ablilties.

Parker being an excellent defensive coordinator: maybe in the late 1970's when passing wasn't used as much. In response to the bold: at least KOK is an innovator - he reacts to game situations.

The big question is: what does one do when coaching philosophy comes into question (I'm questioning) with a team that's "well coached" - browbeaten?

Can the "well coaching" coach be coached?
