Found this funny.

6. IOWA
BUZZ: Kirk Ferentz doesn't get enough credit for what he has accomplished at Iowa. At least half the Big Ten has better facilities and probably nine league members have a better recruiting base, but Ferentz and the Hawkeyes keep winning. Norm Parker is an excellent defensive coordinator, and offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe has been with Ferentz a long time.

Yet there's not another head coach in the nation that would have the success that KF has had at Iowa. Bias aside....KF is top 3 or 4 coaches in the nation, if not the top.

do at least half the teams in B10 have better facilities though? I know it's subjective and I really have no idea. I'm guessing OSU, UM, NE and PSU do. MN has all-new facilities so presumably them. Then Wisc? What about MSU? Do MSU and Wisc clearly have better facilities or is the middle tier of WI, MSU and IA pretty blurred?
IL, NW, PU certainly do not.

There aren't a lot of schools that regularly fill a 70k stadium and are willing to pay their coach big bucks. Of course, success allows both to happen, so I'm not denying that Kirk has something to do with it. But Iowa isn't as difficult as some people would like to believe.

All the same, I agree that Kirk and co. are a top 10 staff.

My browser must be broken- I didn't see Bo Pelini on that list... how can that be???????
Could be because he is only going into year # 4 as head coach.

Or the fact that he had to replace about 1/2 of the coaching staff (including the OC) over the offseason, so no one knows how well they will perform.

That *is* funny!

Ferentz has an excellent record against the coaching staffs on that list.
1-1 against Saban (loss being first year ta Iowa)
1-0 against Spurrier
2-2 against Bielema
8-2 against Paterno

Kirk Ferentz is 12-5 against Rival's Top ten Coaching Staffs

Great stat. Glad someone thought to check into that!

THIS.

Ferentz does a great job, and Hayden did nothing short of resurect the program. But the myth often pushed by clones (we were lucky to get Hayden and we're just as lucky to have KFz now. Someday he'll leave and it'll all fall apart) is absolute B.S. There's a big difference between the two schools and programs.

Even during the dark ages Kinnick was the place to be. IOWA's average attendance varied between 57,000 to a low of 47,000 during the 16 losing seasons pre-Hayden. 47,000 was STILL nearly 5,000 more than Jack Trice held when it was completely full!

In the mid to late 70s, the clones were winning under Johnny Majors and we were on the back end of multiple losing seasons. We STILL outdrew them.

The IOWA job...program...tradition...facilities...alumni network...etc etc. is something ISU can only dream of. But to most of us...that's obvious.

Longevity and stability have benefited Iowa immensely. KF has put together a solid staff and it has paid off. That article about ISU and the B12 is just ****** writing. With Dan we had a guy who was willing to stay for years, but he couldnt keep a staff straight and was unable to make some tough decisions to grow the program further. I think with PR, we can get there. I will be the first to admit that KF's program is a good one to model after. You are damn lucky to have gotten him and keep him.

I don't know that it's absolute B.S. It *could* happen. It happened to our basketball program and happened to Michigan's football program with Rodriguez. Whoever replaces KF will have some huge shoes to fill and needs to be prepared to hit the ground running to keep things rolling.

Not sure what this has to do with KF and whether Iowa sinks or swims after he leaves.

I have no doubt you could replace KF with some really good coach. KF is paid pretty darn well and I think the job isnt bad at all and has some rich tradition. He may struggle a bit to start, but the foundation is laid.

I agree, but to deny there's a decent chance it all goes to hell (or at least goes slightly downhill) with the next hire is crazy. Overall, KF has overachieved and gotten as much out of his recruits as one could possibly expect. I hope the next man in can do the same.
