Iowa 2019 Schedule

I was looking at the schedule for next fall and noticed that there are two open/bye dates listed. One is 9/21 and the other is 11/2. We still have 12 games scheduled, so this seemed different from other years with only 1 bye. Am I missing something?

I imagine it’s just the way the calendar breaks. College football regular always starts the Saturday before Labor Day & ends the Saturday after thanksgiving.

In 2019 Labor Day is early, September 2, and thanksgiving is late, November 28. There are 4 Saturday’s in September & October and 5 in November. Combined with the opening Saturday being in August 31, 2019 that’s 14 Saturday’s in the regular season so 2 off weeks

Makes sense. Thanks for the quick reply. One of the bye's is at the same time as my annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. Typically, I miss an Iowa game and have to resort to TV. Not in 2019!

you have to remember that with our annually incredibly weak non con schedule and b 10 west schedule, most weeks are byes

Until Iowa shows that it can beat the teams in the West, I'm not complaining about the schedule

I believe the last time Iowa had the double byes it happened both in 2013 and 2014 seasons. Iowa did well after their second byes those seasons. Beating Mich in 2013 and blowing out NW in 2014.

I see we finally get to settle all of that unfinished business we have with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights!

Just wait until 2022-2025 when Iowa starts playing Rutgers every year, based on the latest schedules released by the Big Ten. Maybe by that time Delaney will scrap the divisions and the Big Ten can go to a divisionless schedule instead.

No ISU game after 2023. Wouldn't that be something if it stayed that way? Not a chance, though. Barta ought to tell ISU, 2 Iowa home games for every 1 ISU home game, or no deal. Then, it would probably end up 2 ISU home games for every 1 Iowa home game.

I'd say cut it off at that point. Get some variety in other Power5 teams to play.

Then don’t be that guy that brags about kf record

I believe the double-bye is because Thanksgiving is a week later next year. This year it was on November 22nd, next year its on November 28th. Iowa's season starts on Labor Day weekend and ends on Thanksgiving weekend, so its just the way it works out.

Barta is a master of the art of the deal.
