Come on Jon... you are better than this....

Are you really going to compare the ability of a coach to turn around the Iowa program based on the views of a message board post???

Dude, he's making a simple point: fans are energized by the idea of BJ. After 3 years of Lick-ball, what the hell is wrong that?

I don't envy your job, Jon. Lots of tedious fans hanging on to your every word.

I understand the importance of filling the seats and getting the fans excited.

We are a Big Ten school.... We can hire somebody better than someone with absolutely NONE... NO coaching experience.

that ibahawkeye guy has a hard-on for jon...if you dont like what he writes and your just gonna nit pick everything he writes...how bout you dont read it...its free content and he is giving us info we wall want that he gets...so just back off dude would you rather he just kept it all to himself...remember all this is FREE

Obviously the no coaching experience is a big issue, but if he's got the right assts then who knows? He'd be an amazing recruiter (3rd most famous guy on those legendary Bulls teams) and it sounds like his heart is firmly with the school and program. There's a lot to be said for that.

I'm not in favor of hiring someone that has never coached a game but if you're looking for someone to recruit the Chicago area it doesn't get much better unless your initials are MJ.

I've never said anything negative about Jon until tonight. I absolutely love the site but I don't think its unfair for me to have my own opinon.

We are a Big Ten basketball school.... seriously... can we not do better than a coach that has absolutely NOOOOOOOOO experience.

Please help me understand why BJ would even be an option.

I'm talking as a head coach, because that is what I think Jon's initial post was implying when he said BJ was interested in the "job"

BJ seems to be a VERY smart guy and he was always a team player. He would know that he needs to surround himself with great guys with experience if this ever came to pass. One thing I know is that he would unite the Iowa fan base just as much as anyone could.

I really do hope the next coach brings in a flavor of Hawkeye past somehow. BJ as head coach makes no sense. But he's a smart guy, has NBA All-Star experience, and would definitely be a boon to have on the staff in some capacity - perhaps recruiting?

Bobby Hansen is also someone that's kept his ties tight w/ Iowa - although he may be a better fit where he's at behind the mic.

It's interesting (and, frankly, more than a little bit maddening) that many of the same posters who love Forbes and B.J. because of their Iowa and Pearl ties are rejecting the idea of Keno Davis because he is "unproven" as a head coach.

actually i dont think he was "implying" because he is pretty good about just coming out and saying what he wants...he doesnt have subliminal messages in is posts...at least in my opinion...which as you stated is not unfair to have

I think it's because most of us are familiar with Forbes by now. On the other hand, most folks don't/didn't consider BJ a realistic candidate. Thus, the BJ post is more compelling.

A lot of posts are being made with emotion instead of logic right now. Its hard not to get swept up in the commotion (sp?) when a coaching search is happening

Logic tells me that BJ will keep his current lifestyle and not give it up and the commish he's going to make when D Rose signs a max deal in a couple years

I asked him in one of the other threads to make sure that he was talking the head coaching job....

I want to be fair.
