Interesting Comments from Clemmons on Dickerson

I think some on here overestimate just how often players "should be able to get to the rim". If it were that easy, teams would be getting shots at the rim all day long. Not many, if any really can get to the rim at will. The key is getting some more easy looks at the rim than we did last year. MG could get to the rim, but just couldn't finish. Hopefully now as an upperclassman that will change, much like it did for Gattens. Gattens couldn't finish at the rim for his life his first 3 years, then his 4th he got it, and started finishing at the rim.

dean, MG could get to the rim with the help of a screen up top of the key, then he had issues finishing. But if you need to utilize a screen, it gives the defense the opportunity to play that screen well and still stay "within" their defensive concept; keeping the offense in front of them.

If you have a pg that can take his man off the dribble, the first thing that happens is that it becomes 5 on 4 by definition because the pg is beyond his defender. That "breaks" the defense and forces them into scramble "help" mode and leaves the offense with 2 on 1 advantages. That's the only point I'm trying to make re: MG. MG is a B1G caliber player but this is his deficiency, in my opinion. His shooting is just a matter of confidence and should come around.

Last seson, Iowa didn't have a pg who could get to the rim in half court sets, if necessary, and that largely fell to RDM on end of clock situations. That is a definciency at the pg position. MG is very good at the fast break and I think he can be a scorer. But he can't beat folks off the dribble, on his own, and that is an issue with end of clock situations. If TD and/or Sapp can do this, they play pg. If they can't, then we need someone else. If we had a pg that could have taken appling off the dribble, last season, that game would have been much different. Conversely, if we had a pg that could have kept Appling from getting to the rim...

When did Marble get to the rim? He shot allot of contested 10-15 foot jumpers at the end of the shot clock but rarely got to the rim.

No one got there much but Mike did so more frequently than Marble he just didn't finish.

Iowas half court problems were as much to do with lack of spacing as anything IMO.

There were just to many non shooters on the court at the same time to have any real driving lanes.

I kind of thought the same thing, but didn't want to argue with Arvada. Take the MSU game for instance. Gesell got to the rim at the end of OT, just didn't make it. Marble took the shot at the end of regulation, and it was like a 12' jumper, he didn't get to the rim.

Gesell didn't make the shot but at least he drew the foul....

Let's see, he was ranked the #1 JUCO PG in the country. Not enough for you? How about being voted an All-American?

Lofty expectations are going to follow those accollades. I hope TD can do it. But AC is right tho, too much pressure.

Haha... you said "accolades".
