Interesting BHGP community rating distribution for Greg Davis

So over at BlackHeartGoldPants, they are doing this community rating thing after every game where fans can rate position groups and coaches on a 1-10 scale. Then they aggregate & graph the results and talk about them.

Most of ratings are in fairly close agreement (i.e. the peak of the distribution is fairly pronounced). For example this graph for Jake Rudock shows 656 of the 983 (66%) voters gave Jake a 6 or 7 performance on Saturday.

Now, the really interesting one to me was for Greg Davis. See below:

The distribution is almost uniform from [1,7]. I.e. you can find equal numbers of posters that felt GD's performance was anywhere from downright horrible to pretty good and everything in between. Just kind of interesting that fans would have 1) such a wide range of opinion and 2) equal numbers of people supporting each such opinion.

Kind of neat. It will continue to be interesting to see how this transforms over the season or if GD continues to be point of wide disagreement among the fans.

so... pretty much like last year.

I don't know. We have no actual data, but anecdotally it seemed like there was agreement on a negative opinion of his performance last year.

Seems like there is either just more fan optimism this year or at least some people liked what they saw on Saturday to some degree.

A couple of the more influential posters over there are really banging the drum strongly in support of Davis. That's the thing about that place, there are only 3 or 4 people's opinion that really get reflected. Just about everyone will fall in line behind those people, with very few dissenting viewpoints. If you ran the same kind of poll here or at rivals, it would be overwhelmingly negative for Davis.

Nobody has a good idea if the poor play calling is the result of Davis or if it's the result of Ferentz. Fortunately for Davis history says a lot about what he can bring to the table if he's given full reins which I doubt Ferentz allows him to do.

My perspective is that they have pretty diverse opinions over there among the commentors. And I think this poll represents that.

Also, there were almost 1000 voters (and no where near that many people post over there), which I think is a fairly good sample size. Yes, there may be bias because of the website hosting the voting, but my guess is that there is even more bias on this site and their poll more closely represents Iowa fans as a whole. This is pure speculation though.

I guess the main thing it makes me wonder about is if GD (and KF) have more fan capital than is represented around here.

The exact opposite of this is true.

I disagree with this thought. I'd think the graph would be pretty similar here. But unless we have a graph/poll it's all just both if our feel/opinion of the atmosphere here.

So agree to disagree?

If that's true, then the Iowa football program is in a lot more trouble than I thought. Sad, sad days ahead.
