It took White forever to get going in that 2nd half for some reason. But once he did he scored a slew of points either on the dribble drive or at the foul line. All I know is everytime I seen Gesell driving to the hoop only to get blocked or miss the layup I kept thinking that should have been White. White is the one who has the size and strength to drive it in there and either make the shot or get fouled.

That is what should be happening, White and marble and basabe and uthoff driving to the hoop.

But that isnt happening.

I just watched the game for first time and gesell made four or so buckets driving to the hoop , as he can get their easily. I think gesell needs to drive and dish more , dish it off for another drive by the big guys.

You have to ask why isnt white and marble doing this all the time as the offense should go through them

I agree, good point. If he can dish it back out to someone that is wide open then it is worth while. I am not saying he should abandon the move, we have seen Gesell score many points on the dribble drive but against Wisconsin it was not working so either give someone else a crack at it or try something else.

If this is the case then there's no excuse for Iowa not being able to take it to opposing players playing with 4 fouls. There were 3 of them on the court last night and all 3 finished the game.

We didn't have a coach on the bench to tell them to drive...he was in the locker room watching TV like the rest of us.

Per Wikipedia - Kirk Speraw is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant basketball coach for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, under Head Coach Fran McCaffery. Speraw previously served as the head coach for the men's basketball team at the University of Central Florida, from 1993 to 2010. Speraw took the Knights to four NCAA tournament appearances.

This is one of the leadership aspects of this team and a know how to go to the hot hand type of things.

If a player has a mismatch or can do whatever they want you have to clear it out for them.

Give Hoiberg credit for his days in the NBA because his team knew exactly what to do late in the game with Iowa.

They got a turnover and isolated ejim or niang one on one in the wing area and let them work.

Hoiberg didn't win that game with strategy... We lost that game by not making free throws in the last 1:12.

I don't think lack of driving to the hoop was the problem, they drove to the hoop allot and missed a ton of layups.

Not that I dont think they should keep driving, they should, but why no post ups against such a small team?

Iowa actually lost at its own game in the second half, we tried to press and run on a team that plays four guards while we play 3 forwards. They broke our press and got 3s while we rushed shots and missed layups.

Iowa would have been better off to make a concerted effort to post up their second and third guards all day and foul them out. We maybe had a post possession 3 or 4 times all day.

No way could Sam Decker guard Basabe on the block and White had a huge height advantage on Gasser. We don't post up Basabe at all anymore even though that was a main part of the offense when he was a freshman.
