Indianapolis BBall Double Header

In case anyone was not paying attention there was a BBall double header at Conseco Fieldhouse, IU vs ND and Purdue vs Butler. This is essentially what Barta is proposing to have at Wells Fargo Arena in DM. Looks like a good alternative to the present.

I was wondering what the deal was. Watched some of Butler and Purdue and saw a bunch of red in the crowd. Figured it had to be something like that. Good setup and venue in my opinion.

They've done this kind of thing in Indy for years. It used to be called the Wooden Classic, and always included Purdue. I think this was called the Hoosier Classic, or something like that. They've tried a lot of intrastate options year to year, getting IUPUI involved, the pre-season NIT, Ball State has been in the mix, but I think they really have something with IU and Purdue each hosting a game, back to back. This was the first time they have done that. Downtown Indianapolis was bedlam this afternoon, and it was a fantastic atmosphere all day. Everyone seemed to get along as well.

I think something like this would be great in Des Moines, but it would be different, because there are many other D1 programs to choose from in Indiana. In Iowa, it would simply round robin between the 4 schools year to year. Might get stale, but who knows? It may work.

Another issue is that UNI and Drake are in the same conference. If Iowa and ISU play each other then UNI and Drake need to agree that the game counts as a MV conference game. That is their problem. You could substitute one outside team for UNI or Drake every three years, but finding a logical team is difficult because they are also members of the MVC, i.e. Creighton, Bradley.
