Indian Hills Roster

They are one of the better Juco's around for developing talent. Those that cannot make grades or not happy with the school they've chosen.

Spearman video.

The kid had a ton of hype coming out of HS. He didn't like his playing time at Dayton and went JUCO. He is an athletic wing which we don't have right now. We have plenty height at C, we have two PGs, we have PFs. An athletic slashing wing is not on the roster right now.

Watched the first couple of minutes. Physically impressive. Fran knows talent. I didn't care for his salutes, celebrations, pointing, etc... but that's not for me to decide any more, Fran can reel that in. If he can DEFEND even a brown paper bag I say sign him up. Go Hawks!

We will be paper thin at the 2-3 slots with only Marble and Oglesby returning. Ingram is a non-shooter who needs refinement. Thats it. We need a wing. If Spearman is who Fran targets,I hope we get him.

I know people aren't high on his 3pt% but it's not bad, 33% this past year out of 144 shots. Also, on this film, his stroke looks pretty good and he's obviously got serious hops and can get to the hoop. I'd take him.

Oh boy, you guys are just begging for an internet smackdown from ol' Herb....

No doubt, just wait until he comes back from his ban. None of us have faith in Fran or the incoming recruiting class if we suggest Spearman should sign with Iowa.

I don't agree that thinking we need a tough, physical rebounder down low is a vote of no confidence for McCaffrey. I just don't think we can expect 2 freshman and a little used soph (Olaseni) to revolutionize our interior game. If Olaseni or Meyer needs more work, I would rather see one red shirt than use up a year of eligibility sitting on the bench ( Olaseni this year). IMO, we got little / nothing from Brommer & Archie that Olaseni couldn't have given us and he could have applied the PT to his next 3 years. I also think a lot hinges on what McCabe and Basabe do over the summer relative to improving their games.

The thing I'm starting to appreciate about Mac is that he's a gradual improvement type of guy. The interior game has gotten better over the course of this year with McCabe, Basabe, White, and it will continue to do so with Woodbury, et. al. next year. While I certainly don't think Fran would turn down a behemoth type of player, they need to be able to run for him and those are rare. Hence, lots of lean greyhounds.

tall player not very important in basketball. in chine we have many tall players. our guard players are not very good. we have taller player than team in europe and argentina. they have faster player. they always beat us. in china they make you play basketball if you very tall. they need to make men who are very fast play basketball.

Here is the deal on the inside:

McCabe is good enough. He won't take us to the promised land but he is good enough to help out at the C position. The two players that are coming in are expected to be better than McCabe at the C position.

Olaseni isn't going to contribute a heck of a lot. Kurt Looby type player with similar BB IQ. He will contribute in his Sr year with probably 10-15 minutes of PT. Unfortunately for him (and fortunately for Iowa), we have two kids coming in that possess super high BB IQ and the bodies to be productive right when they get to campus.

What this team doesn't have is an athletic wing that can play lockdown defense and dribble penetrate. Marble is going to be the starter at wing, White and/or Basabe will start too. I would expect McCabe to start the year at the C position but he will eventually lose time to Woodbury/Meyers. Gesell or Clemmons will start at the point.

We are deep at the C position next year (Woodbury, Meyers, McCabe and Olaseni).
We are deep at the PF position next year (White, Basabe, McCabe and Meyers)
We are deep at the PG position next year (Gesell, Clemmons and Marble).
Where we lack quality D1 depth is the wing position. (Marble, Oglesby, Ingram and May). Marble is a perfect fit for the wing, Oglesby is a pure shooter with limited defensive skills, Ingram is athletic but not at the same level as Spearman. May can jump.

Getting an athletic wing that has experience makes sense.
