Incoming Recruit You are Most Excited About?

Decided to watch several of these video's again and all these kids have lots of ability. Mikail McCall is going to be stud, runs low to the ground, sneaky fast with quick feet, but can stride it out too. Is hard to bring down and runs a little like Adam Robinson ironically enuff. I know some Iowa fans pooh-poohed Adam from time to time it seems but I’ll miss watching him run.

Arob could have been so much better, and a much higher rated recruit, if he had more straight-line speed and a head on his shoulders.

Yeah but he was fast enuff, unfortunately he was also stupid “enuffâ€￾ in this particular instance as well.

On offense my favorite recruits are Rudock and McCall. On defense I would say my favorites are Cooper, Raymond, and Lomax. My sleeper recruit has to Collins. We always have one kid that noone expects to play as a freshman. I really think that guys will be Collins or Lowdermilk.

I like an awful lot of our recruits. But Rudock's videos practically had me drooling. Sure, he was working with a VERY loaded supporting cast. But there were a lot of throws that all the receiver talent in the world wouldn't be enough. The kid can flat out sling it, and thread the needle. On top of that, he's mobile, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if we called the QB draw a few times (And I wouldn't be shocked if he broke a big one.).

Good arm strength, CRAZY accuracy, good size/frame, very cerebral player, can move it with his feet. Just seems like the total package, which is something that we've not had at Iowa in quite a while.

Just from watching Austin Blythe wrestle you can tell he has great movement for a man that size. Great balance combined with strength and leverage. I have high hopes for this young man

Short on speed?

Not sure what this means exactly or what â€knockout†running back means but here are some notable times from the most recent NFL draft combine for Rbers……

John Clay -4.87

2 guys from a supposed speed school Miami….
Craig Cooper -4.65
Damien Berry -4.63

Darren Evans-4.58
Ryan Williams-4.61 both from Va Tech

Mark Ingram-4.62
Kendall Hunter sure looked faster than 4.53
Mikel Leshour- 4.59
Steven Ridley LSU-4.66
Jacquizz Rodgers-4.64
Evan Royster 4.65
Vai Taua ran a 4.71….I watched Nevada play a ton and I’d have guessed he was at least a 4.5 something guy.

Yet I have seen most all of the above break off some nice long runs..... Conversely there are some guys like Brandon Saine from tOSU who ran a 4.43 and I have to say I was never very impressed with him. Roy Helu ran a 4.42 and I’d take most of the above over him for a college Rber.

Honestly top end speed is far and away the most over rated attribute for a Running back and a WR for that matter. Probably more importantly what they run isn’t always indicative of how fast they play of the field or hit the hole.

On that note I will stop just short of guaranteeing you Adam Robinson already runs as well and better than most of these guys and McCall will too by the time he leaves here.

McCall will be great, but I hope it's not just yet. I am pretty stoked about our back situation. I like it now, but suspect our run game will hit it's stride in a year or two. I am not saying we wont have any luck before then, infact just the opposite. But if things progress the way I imagine, in two years we will be pretty high in the rankings on the run game. This Coe deal throws a wrench in things but I see enough options there that it should'nt affect, the overall picture.

I won't say that all of those guys have, because I've not seen all of their times since the Combine, but most of them improved their times quite a bit at their pro days. Indy has a pretty slow track now, since they switched from Astroturf.

Yep they sure did, and in fact I do know because I follow that stuff pretty close. The thing is this is what they ran for everyone to see and then when they went home they might have picked up .05 or .1 of a second. Still a crap shoot and there clearly weren’t a whole lot of 4.3, 4.4 guys in the group.

Ingram improved to a 4.53, 4.56 or more simply put something similar to what Albert Young ran, whom our fans lamented his lack of home run ability.

Here is an anomaly; Damien Berry from Miami DID improve from 4.59 to 4.45 (to much really) but lost his job at the end of the season to Cooper who ran worse at home 4.63 to 4.66. Few run worse, most run better at home in cozy confines.

Rodgers improved from 4.56 to 4.49 and 4.51.

Vai Taua ran 4.69 4.71 again…

Hunter ran 4.52 4.58….etc, etc, etc…

Point being everyone wants what they think someone else has when in reality there are very few great 4.4 NFL Rbers or WR!

Notice all the different names being tossed around here. This is one heck of a class.

I agree. Provided we don't lose too many guys to attrition in the next few years, the past few classes could end up reaping us some rewards in the upcoming seasons. The future definitely looks bright!

Canzeri's tape is definitely the most exciting to me, but unless he can add a bit more weight, I just can't see the coaches putting him out there unless it's a necessity. I think he's electric w/ the ball though, and really hope they utilize his skills in creative ways. I think John Raymon and Darian Cooper are the players who'll make some noise and potentially get snaps. They're coming in at positions which don't appear to have significant depth or defined pecking orders, and they're fairly close (if not already) physically ready. That being said, there's numerous players I could see getting snaps this season, which I think is more telling of their of abilities and physical status than the current roster. I really, really like this class.
