Incoming Recruit You are Most Excited About?

Nico Law has always been my favorite and who I think will make the biggest impact for the Hawks. Top 5 are this;

1. Nico
2. Spears
3. Ruddock
4. Cooper
5. Raymon

Bullock! Check out his highlight video. Not afraid to lay the wood. Canzeri will be a stud also

I would reverse the order here but these were at the top of my list. Canzeri looks like the type of speedy, elusive runner we haven't had for quite a while.

'Bigger' recruit, Nico Law.
'Smaller' recruit, Canzeri. How do you not get excited over that tape?

I am almost just as anxious to see who is the surprise recruit in the bunch. Someone who kind of flew under the radar to us fans and will be a big time player.

Yep.

Whatever happened with that d-back from Maryland who wanted out of his commitment? I can't remember his name, but he was the guy with the twitter account discussing, umm, all things red.

Word on TOS is that Coe is in serious and may not be able to play at Iowa. A "source" said that he has been talking with a Juco school to play there.

Are we talking instant impact or are we talking overall career wise? If we are talking instant impact I think Canzeri or McCall are on the top of the list. If we are talking career wise, it's a toss up between Nico Law, Cooper, and Rudock.

I don't know. Cheerleader tryouts just finished up last month, and I don't think they've announced the incoming freshman yet.

I’ve always liked McCall’s upside even over Coe and if he doesn’t play next year it’s because we have better options already here…..

Similar scenario with Canzeri who I also think has a legit shot to be a slot/KR/scat back type this year.

I really think an already 260 Lb John Raymon with his lunch pail attitude and the athleticism to be a main cog on a 27-3 B-ball team could make waves and that would be a treat because I honestly think we have some very good DE options already here.

I watched Riley McMinn in the Illinois state Championships and his quickness & athleticism is off the charts. I do see the potential there to turn into a LT but I was very impressed with his quickness off the Edge as a DE and the announcer even commented at how good he’d do playing over in Iowa City for his old friend Kirk Ferentz. Which I’ll bet Illinois fans loved during an Illinois High School broadcast.

Cooper has a shot, but that’s a tall order as a frosh to play inside like that but it has been done. Again I think we have good options here now, but he is big enuff, as long as his acumen is solid and his “strength” is Big 10 worthy.

Iowa has a tendency to play 1 or 2 Frosh DB’s every year whether we “need” them or not. So on that note I’d guess a Nico Law, Lomax, Campbell or maybe even a Bullock will likely play some. Hyde, Lowery, Lowe, Miller and I had thought Castillo all played as true Frosh but I’ve been told I’m wrong on Castillo.

I have been in love with Marcus Grant's size and ball skills since early on. I really think he’ll play and again if not it’s because we have some really good options already here.

Duzey has unreal upside and athleticism and I could see him being a hybrid TE/H-back/WR type as a frosh like they used a Scott Chandler or even a Champ Davis (remember him) before all his injuries.

Finally, Iowa over the years, has had a kid come out of nowhere, usually a late 2 star signee (sometimes more than 1) that is a heavy contributor in some capacity. This Marcus Collins (if you haven’t seen his YouTube video check it out) is very quick and fast. Very aggressive and will come after you. He isn’t really big enuff to be a regular Lber yet and I don’t think he is necessarily a sfty, but his effort and aggressiveness may be too infectious to keep off of special teams at least.

Just my thoughts…

The two who I'm probably the most excited about are Raymon and Blythe ... however, I also don't think that either will see action as a TR FR. I'm also really excited about Law, however, if Hyde remains at safety, then I'd really prefer to see Law redshirt.

However, if we're speaking about "instant impact" guys ... then the guys who are MOST LIKELY to play as TR FR and who I'm also most excited about are:

- Campbell: If Hyde remains at safety, Campbell WILL see action as a TR FR. What's more, what excites me about Campbell is that he's a FOOTBALL PLAYER first ... and it just so happens that he's also a speedster. Some guys are just speed guys who play football ... that ain't the case with Campbell.

- Alston: He's DEFINITELY going to see quality action on special teams. What will be more interesting is if he can make a big positional splash too. I'm particularly curious about whether he sticks at LB, or if he ends up moving over to DE.

- Cooper: As a TR FR, he's very much in the picture to be able to receive QUALITY POSITIONAL action. Not many of the TR FR are going to be able to say that ... the fact that he can has me excited.

- Canzeri/McCall: A TR FR is definitely going to be able to be in a position to contribute at RB. I'd add Coe to the list if he were a shoe-in to qualify ... but I'm not convinced of that. Both Canzeri and McCall are really intriguing runners who could end up being pleasant surprises. I'm very curious about who will be able to make the earlier splash.

- Grant: While I also like what Hillyer brings to the table ... I can't help but believe that Grant might be a little bit more prepared to handle playing WR in Iowa's style of O. He strikes me as a kid who is prepared to put in the work and do the little things that a WR needs to do to be successful (i.e. block).

- Hamilton: This is just my own prejudice ... I love how Iowa uses its TEs. While Iowa already has 3 good ones in Herman, CJ, and Derby ... I expect that there will be room for Hamilton to contribute as a TR FR.

Just watched some Melvin Spears video, man can that kid fill the gap, take on a blocker and strip the football.

We really signed some good recruits, hard to pick out who will be a star!
