sarcasm detector activated...This kid could have the goods just look at all those majors who wanted him.
Like 1,000 yd rusher LeShun Daniels who had offers from Iowa, Akron, and Boston College? This kid could have the goods just look at all those majors who wanted him.
Nick Bell/Tony Stewart?I like the look of Doll-Williams as a one two punch at RB.
For sure. Those two only became names to us because of a wild amount of injuries. Wouldn't it have been wild if say Shonn Greene coulda ran behind the 02 line Russell had? Or Tavian Banks etc etc... Russell was ok and all but their was more hay to have put in the barn with that running game as good as it was.I like what Betts is doing, but we all know that RBs in football are the biggest paradox out there. Even though they handle the ball more than any other position other than QB, they don't get drafted high or paid big bucks in the NFL, and many teams go with RB by committee. What most football experts have figured out is that RBs, for the most part are fairly interchangeable. NFL teams can find starting RBs consistently in the late rounds who are almost as good as Zeke or Saquon or whomever. The difference between success and failure in the running game is the OL, and that is where the dollars go.
Think Iowa. Other than the Brownlee and Weisman eras, we have generally had pretty good RBs, but whether we have been a good running team or not depended entirely upon the hogs up front. It doesn't take true greatness to run through the holes Freddie Russell had.
Now, there are truly exceptional difference makers at RB like Barry, Adrian, etc. Those guys are really rare. But guys like that are never coming to Iowa, so let's stack the room with 3 star kids of varying skillsets and trust Betts to mold the room to what is needed. But, the offense comes down to what the Ferentzes mold the OL into. Plain and simple.
We all know as long as Kurt is in office RB is gonna be done by committee. That eliminates probably 50% or better of the bigger name recruits out there, and Brian being OC eliminates the other 50%. If guys are legit P5 material but know they’re only going to get half the snaps playing for an OC who’s dumber than Coach Klein from Waterboy, they will go somewhere else, who could blame ‘em?
Ladell will find guys under the radar and make workmanlike backs out of them like we always do.
It’ll be fine.

Nope.If McNamara can hit receivers and TEs in stride this whole conversation is pretty much moot anyway.
If he can't hit 'em in stride, well...it's still mostly moot.
Unless you're a Michigan or Georgia rushing for 3,000+ yds with 5-star future NFLers, you're not really doing much with your running game other than setting up the pass. And if you can't pass, you might as well just reserve your rooms for 6-6 and the Ron's A-1 Muffler Shop Bowl in Yakima, WA. It's a different league now and quickly evolving into the pass game like the NFL.
Just sayin'.
Would be awesome but that's a high bar. A while back someone had us list our all time Mount Rushmore of Iowa running backs and Bell certainly made my list.Nick Bell/Tony Stewart?
On the NFL level the day of the running back may be over within ten years-with the exception of goal line and short yardage. The day of one running back playing nearly all the snaps is long over.

Anyone lining up in the backfield on 95% of offensive plays will be a pass ceceiver not a ball carrying back.
Quarterbacks will be the leading rusher on over half the teams in the league.
The season rushing yardage record will be broke by a quarterback before any running back ever challenges it again.
