Okay I know there have been a ton of posts about bowl selection criteria, so if I missed something I apologize. Why do we need MSU to lose another game to go to the BCS? If we win out, we're eligible for the BCS and wouldn't we be selected for the Sugar over a MSU team with one loss due to our fan travel base? Is there a rule preventing that? Again, sorry if this has already been answered in another thread.

If we win out there is a good chance that MSU and Wisc also will. (PSU v. Mich st. and Wisc. v. Mich are huge) then MSU will get the Rose automagically, and Wisc would be a better pick for the At-large (1 loss vs. our 2, similar fan base). If MSU loses and it is us and Wisky tied, Wisky gets the Rose, but then we would be the better pick for Sugar over MSU with head to head and the same overall record.
So to answer your question about travel, we won't be up against a 1 loss MSU team for an at-large bid so that argument won't come up.
The first tie-breaker is head-to-head.Why would MSU go to the Rose Bowl over Wisconsin? I'm pretty sure that if MSU, Wisconsin and Iowa all have 1 loss it's Wisconsin that goes to the Rose because they'll have the higher BCS ranking.
The first tie-breaker is head-to-head.
Right, but head to head doesn't break the tie because all 3 of us beat each other so it moves on to overall record where MSU and Wisconsin tie at 11-1 and we're eliminated with the Arizona loss. Then it moves to highest BCS ranking which Wisky would own. Then Iowa would be in the pool with MSU for an at-large BCS spot.
The way I understand it is that Iowa would be eliminated because of the worse overall record. Now, since there would be a 2 way tie between MSU and Wisconsin. the criteria would move back to the head-to-head matchup. Based on that, MSU would go to the Rose Bowl.
Okay, I thought I had it understood, but apparently those who were trying to help me also had it wrong. Do we all agree with madrock21? If we all win out, Mich State would likely NOT go to the Rose, due to likely lower BCS ranking than Wisky, and so we would be in a pool with MSU. Their overall record would not be determinitive and we could/would get the Sugar Bowl bid over MSU?
