Leistikow does great work on a number of plays, but most interestingly he breaks down the bizarre 4th down play before the half.

Apparently it was supposed to be a pass/punt option for Mansell, and hey may have had Hockensen open on the opposite side of the field. Unfortunately he froze up (understandable for a RSFR is his first meaningful snap ever) and decided to tuck and run.

Leistikow does a good job. He's at the top of the reporters who write on Iowa football. Upon reading that, for those who say Mansell should have come in, when given his shot in that situation, he didn't execute it very well. That may have played a role in the coaches' decision to not try him in the second half. Just a guess.

And why do it with Mansell, I get the play call if its a pass/punt option with Stanley since hes executed the pooch punt before with success but i don't understand why they would put Mansell in to do it.

Very interesting to hear that was the designed play, thanks for posting the article.
