In 2012 this is going to be an interesting team

May will be a senior and a dominating presence.
Marble will be a slasher and dasher
McCabe will develop into a really nice player as well.
Cully? A bit of a wild card - but you have to assume he is a serviceable PG.

With any kind of recruiting in the next two years, we have the opportunity to be a legitimately good team in 2012.

If we can get 1 or 2 solid bigs, I think the Hawks could push for an NCAA birth the year after next!

If Iowa just continues to get depth and fills out this years class with a couple more solid players they will contend for the tournament next year.

May, Basabe and Marble are the building blocks for our future. McCabe can be a man of the bench that can be a spot up shooter and come in and hit a couple threes.

If Cully is still PG... we'll be in trouble.

It's obvious the glaring need is a big man.

I think we might be able to contend for the NIT next year. I know Purdue, Minnesota and IU are really young. MSU, OSU, Illinois and Wisconsin are always good. I cant see a finish any higher than 7 next year.

Way too optimistic. Marble doesn't look like a slasher type. He looks more smooth. Think very poor man's Glen Rice. May has a limited game. Atheletic? Yes. Overall skills? Limited. McCabe? Tweener. Same with Basabe.

This team does not have a guy who can drive the team by creating his own shot and taking over the game. They have good role players, but you need a couple of guys who can just beat their defender.

I just wonder if Fran can recruit. Hopefully he and his staff are good talkers, cause this years product isn't going to inspire a lot of hope.

I definitely like watching this team play compared to the past three years, but if Fran doesn't see improvement next year, will the fanbase start to turn on him too?

The good news is we're as low as a team can be, so it's not like we can lose any more fans for attendance.

Iowa recruiting will have to go about things differently. You can't just go the travel around and get in early on kids route. You need to pull some strings and hit a home run. If FM can't get it done this spring with a game changer, then it will all come down to the Fall signing period. If it doesn't happen then, he will have to make a drastic change. No way you can go into the 2012 signing period without a massive upgrade in recruiting.
